Default Getting ready for Sharktoberfest!!!

Well after abusing sharky last week at the track and driving in the rain (well only a little :>) I decided it was time for a through cleaning.....heres the procedure:

1: Wash
2: Claybar whole car
3: Polish whole car with a non-abrasive chemical oxidation remover
4: seal (wax) the paint with a "teflon" paint sealant (designed to work with step 3)
5: Wait one day for sealant to cure
6: Rejex
7: Wait one more day for rejex to cure
8: DONE!!

Okay so I'm only on step 5.....6 will be tomorrow.....heres some pics so far....step 8 will look much better....engine is next!

Is that the original finish on yours? I was about the start a thread on what can be done to "restore" the finish on the the original clear-coated finish on my '79.

interesting, your paint is obviously a 1 stage system, Ive heard that all the non metallic's have a clearcoat and the non metallics none, can anyone confirm this? I was going to buff my car today but the car had other ideas.

I can find out by taking some polish to the paint and checking to see if i get black on the cloth or not.

So what about our finishes, those of us with the non metallic colors???

oh, and get that duct tape off the mirror! That sutffs nasty, if you want the extra abrasion resistance it offers over paper masking tape, mask it first with some painters tape then cover with duct tape, that stuff if left even for a day will make a huge mess.

Bronto
Its the original paint....all 19 years old!!

Ryan
The way I understand it is the non metallic colors (guards red, white, dunkel blau, maybe black) were all single stage paint until the early 90's.....its an easy test....if the rag turns the cars color when waxing....then its single stage....

Also there is masking tape under the duct tape!! I've made that mistake before

My program for getting ready for Sharktoberfest....

1. Turn in my time-off request at work.
2. Don't forget to pack.
3. Think about things I need to check on the car....can't think of any, so skip that.
3. Skip washing the car until I get to LA

Brian, you are a sick, sick man! Do you have a force field to deflect bugs on I-5? I suppose enough wax on there and they will just slide right off!

Seriously, looks great & I am looking forward to seeing you and your car at SF06.

Bill
I am thinking about putting my bra back on??? Or not.....I do have all morning on friday to clean! I just hope the bugs aren't too bad :>) It will be hard to fit the luggage in the 928 after all my cleaning stuff!

Today I put the rejex on!!

Tim
I was planning on getting a new buffer.....the cyclo is the best.....my old school tank buffer works okay, but only for light polishing or wax application!

Just get behind Bill and follow him the whole way. Bill is used to killing bugs fast....gets plenty of practice at the ORR's.
