The Car and Drive Archives. We all know all new MB are capped at 155. Many times they will cap the convertible. Its just a cheap way of winning. Calculated win.

Idle chatter/thread hijack...
I've began to get a better picture lately of the 3 main internet car forum attitudes on street/freeway racing and serious speeding.
It's socially obvious that any intenet forum (I only post on a few, but have visited many) as well as each sub-forum here on Rennlist has it's own mini-culture, because each one will have regulars that are like-minded. But I have found that while all the car forums are populated with car nuts, but not all are maniacs on public roads.
3 General Attitudes:
#1) That's wrong, do not race or even speed on public roads. This is actually the dominant attitude on the 924/944/951/968 Rennlist sub-forum, I think due to the large amount of people who get their kicks on track and (feel free to flame me) maybe their slow cars. The NSXprime forum, who are very nice people BTW, lean towards this type too.
#2) Once in while, try and be discreet about it, only on deserted freeways, hey everyone does it (true, a survey in 2000 found that nearly every driver has raced at least once in their life!). This is the 928 forum. We have fast cars but are usually pretty conservative with them - but once in awhile...
#3) All out, anything goes, ready to throw down at the drop of a glance. The Rennlist sub-forums with the word "Turbo" in their titles spring to mind. I used to hang at RX7club.com, they have a complete sub-forum called "Kills Section" where all kinds of maniacs from many types of cars post their lurid exploits and videos. I've read some truly insane things there, like a twin-turbo 7 making a do-or-die 10/10ths pass on an hard-driven F355 on a rainy twisty English backroad, or a 3-rotor monster 7 finally edging out a modded Viper at 175mph on a toll road.
These are of course the things that can lead to very bad things (browse wreckedexotics.com...), and give fast cars a bad name. It is interesting to note that the RX-7 guys despise ricers, despite their own alliegiance to a Japanese nameplate, due in part to the huge reputation ricers have for unsafe racing.
I myself used to waver between #s 2 and 3. Now that I'm a parent and do not currently own a car that is even remotely quick I'm pretty much #1 with the rare sprited run by myself.
Thoughts? Comments? Your own attitude?

for some reason that 911 was next to me on the fast lane with me in the middle lane. the guy didn't look at me at all that went on for a mile or so.
then all over sudden, he punched it.
and so did i. i had the move from the middle to the right lane and when i got back to the middle i noticed the 911 was gone (!!!).
then, i saw him in my rear view mirrow. i said to myself ...whoa... i can't believe i scored him.
so i slowed down to limit speed. he came up and again we both punched it.
however, this time he was faster for about a quarter mile, then i noticed how my car kept pushing like crazy , while he fell back.
now, i don't know if mine was really faster or if the other guy had sort of a light foot or felt sorry for me.
anyhow, it made my day

You see the “brain” in the ’83 is analog. Physically there isn’t a chip in there for you to change. It’s as if asking to change the chip in a CIS system.

It was very cool to see, but at the same time, thinking back, it could have ended not so well.

I MAY have done this, going to a triple digit before I realized it, "officer". but there are just too many variables, and too many cops. If my crummy Uniden radar detector went off in the stress of the moment, (lots of false beeps) I would surely end up at the side of the road in a sweat whether I was parked by myself or with a bear behind me. I'm too old to have this much fun, but I want to keep the option of having it in this wonderful car.

Drifting
i like to race, sometimes i catch myself driving like a tit and slow down, it just depends. the other day there was a 997 who came up behind me on the motorway and then overtook real slow on the inside. i didnt mind cause i wanted to see what kind of 997 it was - 'S' with gt3 spoiler kit. so then a small gap opens up from the other traffic so we both hit it - up through 3rd and into 4th and there wasnt anything in it untill we ran up on traffic. and that was with the car loaded up with spares including a set of wheels/tyres, spare etc gave some kind of aston a fright the other day as well not sure if it was a 7 or 9?? some of the modified jap turbo cars are fast mind...
at higher speeds i have to agree with 928 ss and heinrich, only the cops or those with big ***** are still going! having said that ive seen an indicated 170 in the black car and 170 on the gps in the orange one
