Default Euro 5 liter 2 valve engine with B1 Devek cams question

so, when we pull scots engine out to fix the cracked head, what if we bore out the scored 4.7 euro block to 100mm and use 85 pistons. the scoring is only probably around .5mm deep, so a 1.5mm bore (radius) could fix that and give him a 5 liter part euro! how thick to the cylinder walls need to be? is 5-6mm ok, or is that on the thin side?
right now, its at 7.3mm and thats with a 97.5mm bore. we would have 6mm left.

next question is with the B1 Devek 2 valve cams. the euro 82 had deep valve cuts, (which scot has now) the 84, however, has shallow valve cuts. ive heard the devek B1 cams are a little more lift and duration than the euro 84cams. can anyone verify?? if so, could we run into issues with the valves hitting the pistons if we cant make the valve reliefs on the 85 5 liter pistons any deeper than the 84 euro cuts?

Otherwise, if the scored cylinder walls are not that bad, maybe i can find (2) .5mm oversized pistons for the two problem holes and put a "for sale" euro 4.7liter together.

It would probably be cheaper to find an 85-86 block than to bore the 4.7L. That also has tha advantage of leaving you with thicker walls. You will lower the CR going to a 5L part euro...

Mark,

Mr. Anderson has 85/86 short blocks for $1K. Sourcing the pistons and cutting the block will cost you just as much.
Not worth boring that block IMO

good point.

im sure thats 400 bucks for the pistons and near 500 alone for the block cuts.
i guess you would save shipping and sales tax.

ccs of the 85 pistons are 2cc for the cuts and 6-8cc ( I dont have my notes in front of me), for the dish. The 82 euro pistons are 8ccs for the valve cuts so i think its a wash for compression. the thickerwalls is something to think about too! thanks

I don't have my calculations in front of me now, but I checked when I posted above. I was thinking 84-86 for the starting point. My calculations say just over 10:1 for a 5L Euro without the 2V valve cuts. For an 80-83, you may be really close to the original CR.
