I first saw this '94 black on tan, 55,000 mile, 5 speed GTS with no side moldings appear on eBay a couple of nights ago. I was going to see where it was up to in the morning, but by then it was already gone.

I was absolutely blown away! I couldn't believe the selling dealer took such a quick offer. Then I went to "completed items" to see what it sold for. $32K!
Now, I think all of us will agree that $32K for that car was a good deal. That was until I ran a Carfax on it.

Accident indicator and frame damage! No wonder the selling dealer was in a hurry to sell. He said in his ad that he was open to any offer, so just give him a decent one. He just wanted that thing off his lot.......quick!

And unfortunately, an eBay newbie bought it. He must have never heard of Carfax and got the eBay quick bid bug! All I can say is I really feel for that guy, especially when he's ready to unload it!

well that car fax shows it had frame damage and repair but it also shows that the title is clean. 32K sounds like a hell of a deal on a 5 speed GTS thats for sure.

Am i missing something on the carfax, but it looks like its clean?

i guess though it shows frame damage reported, but no later report that frame damage was fixed?

whats the ebay auction number? I never saw the car your refering to?

That's funny; last time I looked under my 928 I don't remember seeing any sort of "frame"-

Unibody-damage is not easy to repair. There are jig's available that can largely straighten a bent unibody car, but the vehicle is never the same. Most of the time, the result is uneven tire wear. My dad bought a former Avis rental car in 1985. The Pontiac 6000 needed tires but looked pretty good, and was for sale thousands of dollars cheaper than book value. Dad put four good Michelins on the "Google" [mom looked at the emblem and thought that "6000LE" was "GOOGLE"], and had it aligned. Problem! The tire shop called the house, and told my dad the car couldn't be aligned, because the engine was pushed 1 inch to the right! Dad took the car back with the original tires and demanded his money back. They refused, but offered another Pontiac 6000 and a $1000 refund. Dad bit [despite my loud argument!] and took the newer car.

Guess what? Dad goes to do the same thing, put tires and an alignment on the gm junk, and it turns out that this one is also bent! They tried to align it, but it never could get it correct and in the end my dad just put a new pair of cheap K-mart tires on the front end every 10k miles.

Well, that's one way to save money! Listen: If someone offered me a 5 speed GTS without the moldings...and said it was bent but it was for sale for $10k less than it would otherwise be worth...

Heh heh! You can buy a lot of damn tires for $10k! I don't know if this particular car is cheaper by $10k, but you get the idea... tires are cheap.

Normy: There are very precise ways of fixing bent unibodies to the point where you would never see or feel any adverse effect. The question is whether such measures were taken in this particular case.

It seems someone wants to unload the car quickly, and after relatively short time from the report of the damage - that makes the whole thing suspicious.

However, for $10 Grand you can do a lot of frame damage repair on a car that's in great condition otherwise. And some people even have friends in the body shop business...

would you feel safe driving your car at high speeds knowing it wasn't straight a beater commuter car sure but not a high speed sports car I think its time to pass or find a new shell to put the parts on.

Curious. I recently purchased a 95 GTS, guards red with tan interior, no stories, all records car (including original window sticker for 90K). 22,000 miles, checked by dealer and an independent 928 specialist. Only thing they found was that the tires were a little old, and there is some discoloration on one panel on the rear seat.

paid 58K. I bought what I wanted for a price I was comfortable with. Your thoughts??

brnsrgn: That's a lot of money, did the car come from new england? I might have seen it last year.
A 'new' 928 is a bargain at any price. $58k will get you a stripped cayman or a boxster, neither of which are rare.

Sounds fine to me. If it's exactly what you wanted, the price was right. Some will say you paid too much, but I don't think so. Especially if it was a 5-speed. Was it?

Yes, definitely a 5 speed. It was from a gentleman in MI, by way of former owners in Fl and buyer in NY.

The only problem is right now it is covered with bug splats from the drive home, and I need a few hours to get rid of that red with yellow polka dot look.

It's a great car! You had to have bought that GTS from Willhoit, via Seancar, via me from Florida sometime last yeat, maybe a year and a half ago at the most.

It was an exceptionally nice car at the time, and in fact, if I remember correctly, it was one of the very last GTS's produced.

Yes, the gentleman I bought from, bought it through Wilhoit. And yes, I was led to believe it is one of the the last 928's made.

I hope to keep and enjoy this car for many years.
