What a wonderful event - I have a lot of people to thank but most of all the particpants.... we had 15 novice drivers at the Performance Driving School, and they listened, took instruction VERY well, had a blast, and drove the dickens out of their 928's!

Every car left without incident and without damage - what could be better then that!

Thanks go out to the Instructors: Mark Anderson, Randy Faunce, Phil Kalameros, Joe Stiffel, and myself. These guys were GREAT - and the lucky attendees got tons of time with whomever they wanted.

We had SO MUCH TRACK TIME in fact, that several of us ran a whole tank of gas thru the car, went and added more, and went right back out. Seat-time, seat time, seat time.

Instructors could and did ride with the students to offer tips en route, and sometimes the instructors drove the students car with student sitting in passenger seat to show the student what their car could do, and sometimes student s wanted a ride in one of 3 track cars there to see what THAT was like.

AT THE MONDAY CAR SHOW: we had a nice mix of early and late models, 16v and 32v cars.
BEST IN SHOW went to David Olthoff and hhis beautiful 91 GT, which also won BEST 32V STOCK 928 class.
BEST 32V MODIFIED went to Dana Johnston and his 1985 928S
BEST 16V STOCK went to JP Rodkey and his clean 1979 Euro
and LONGEST DISTANCE TRAVELED award went to Dana Johnston from Somerset, MASS.
There was no entry for 16v Modified.

There was as much fun at the dinner a,d bar afterwards and into the nuight until they kicked us out - and good thing - we had a driver's event the next day to go to!

The event did not break even financially - but it was "payback time" for us.... we have had an excellent 3 years and I just fugure I threw a party for our 928 friends. We try hard to re-invest into the 928 community, and you can see where we put the money here:

I must be sure to thank Connie McNabb for running the car show and all her organization skills. I frankly wouldn't have done the event had I not had that person on staff to get it all done. And my wife Connie, and son AJ, that helped everywhere and anyway they could.

That car some interesting history. The chassie was done by Bud Hart who was Bob Devores original engine builder and mentor. It was later sold to me as an unfinished project and I resold it to a customer who finished it using a 5.0 liter Euro motor. The present owner (Phil Kalamaros) is the owner of the Green 928 race car with flames which has been around for many years. He picked it up as part of a trade. It had been stored for a few years but he took it out to Carls event. The fornt tires had cords and were so old that after 15 minutes I came in and the temps were about 70 F. After a few laps I came in and told Phil that if it weren't for throttle oversteer you could not turn the car. It was a blast to drive and with some new tires it would really be fun. He has not weighed the car but I estimate it to be about 2400 lbs. Couple that with 12" slicks in all 4 coreners and that is a reciepy for fun.....

2400 lb w/ cage? That's pretty amazing. Do you know what tricks were done to the body/chassis to get it so light?

Bud claimed his other 928 weighed 2280 lbs and that this one was going to be even lighter but he never finished it. The weight saving is not real obvious until you look closely at all the things that are not there like the frame work for the e bake handel and all unecessary mounting tabs.

Bud even tried a MANUAL steering rack so he could ditch the pump lines reservoir but found it was not fun to drive Very clever " hands on" kind of guy.

Wow, that looks like a great time was had. I'm just sorry logistics and time were not on my side. I hope this will be an annual event and the moon will be in the 7th house and Jupiter aligns with Mars, etc., etc., in years to come so I can make it...

Great photos as well. I would venture to say that if the same line-up of instructors and format persists, it will turn into an annual event. Congrats on the first effort!

I had a great time! Thank you, Carl, for putting together such a unique and educational event. The track was very safe, everyone drove within his/her ability and we all took away a new appreciation for these cars. Your classroom sessions were very informative, as was the one done by Mark Anderson.

We had the track all to ourselves. At most, there were probably 10-12 cars on the 1.5-mile track and usually there were half that many running at any one time. In fact, at the end of the day I was out there with only one or two other cars! That kind of solo track time is unheard of at other events.

Thank you also to Connie and Connie for their hard work preparing for the event and on event day. Thank you also to Carl, Mark, Randy, Phil and Joe for riding along with us novices. In particular, thanks to Randy for starting me out the right way (“stay on throttle, stay on throttle”) and thanks to Mark for giving Mandy a few laps. She couldn’t stop talking about how exciting and fast it was. You made quite the impression!

It should be noted that all the instructors paid their own way out there, including Mark, yet they were always willing to give up their track time to ride along with those that were learning. Thanks, guys.

It should also be noted that because the numbers only approached about half of what Carl needed to break even he is out quite a bit of money for the event. I would love to see this become an annual event but it will only happen if Carl doesn’t lose money on it. Plus, $160 for a full track day is about $100 less than other organizations charge and that is without 928-specific instruction. So, if you went to the event or know someone who did, please try to buy something from 928 Motorsports to help offset Carl’s costs or if you or they want to throw Carl $50 or $100 more to help out with this event, his paypal is: Carl928ATcharter.net (replace AT with @)
