Default Radical new suspension design

As good as Weissach suspension is, it's still 30 years old design. Having only four wheels is also sort of old fashioned when Tyrrell F1 car had six wheels back in '76 already.

In order to take 928 suspension directly to this century I decided to make it eight wheeler including all wheel steering. With it, car will turn virtually standing still. Turning circle is basically zero. Also notice different than stock sized wheels which have unique look compared to any other 928. Very enviromentally friendly design utilizes highly recyclable suspension components as its made mostly out of 2x4" wood.

I'll admit there are some minor problems like none of the wheels are actually driven by engine, have any brakes to speak of or steering capability for that matter. But this is not as serious flaw as it may seem as this demo car do not have engine, gearbox or steering rack installed either.

After very successful trial run I'm offering this prototype design for sale. Will consider stroker crank as partial trade.

I moved GTS body from one place 25 miles from home to other 2 miles from home. This should finally allow serious progress in this eternity project called green monster stroker. Instead of installing entire suspension back together I decided to build these supports. Using original parts would have take more time and then I would have had to dismantle them again anyway in order to polish parts, install engine and gearbox etc.

Front end is connected to body only at four lower suspension arm mounting points, rear at four lower arm and two rear subframe mounting points. These were only points entire front and rear structures were in contact with body. It may seem in pics like wood is in contact with fuel pipes at rear for example but there is small gap there. Supports worked really well except fillable tires which didn't have quite enough capasity to carry body weight even though entire drivetrain is removed. This made it hard to push around. Body was tied down to trailer directly instead of tieing wodden bucks into it. It stayed nicely put during transport. None of the wood pieces made a sincle cranking sound even when I used them to lift body off and back on to jackstands.

Looks like you will need higher air pressure on the rears in order to obtai even wear patterns and less oversteering

All tires were filled to their max capasity but it wasn't enoung. They are from Biltema by the way. Sticker says 250 kg carrying capasity in each of them but rubbers side says only 135 kg. Luckily it was enough.

There is obviously eight mounting points at front, not four.

Brilliant '8-wheeler' design with all the atributes of zero turn radius, etc.
You might also consider deflectors to turn the exhaust downwards ... providing a 'no rubber burn' vertical take-off ...aka the Harrier jet fighter plane.

Get an alignment - the negative caster would bother me.

I bought those exact wheels from ebay when I had to build a Frame for my 89. Its on the ground now finally, but indeed, as you have found, they are not rated correctly. All four of my wheels bent and poped, making the move to the trailer, from the trailer to the storage place between home last July,(05), and then to the trailer and to my new garage a very large chore.

I will be re-usuing my 4x4 post frame, but I will be buying some hard-wheeled castors.

I was looking someplace, and saw a set of chassis rollers that use a steel frame in a U shape that straddles the tire, with two straight rollers that actaully support the tire. the rollers are elevated using a small hydraulic jack. The steel frame sits on some real casters, by the way, rated correctly for 1500 lbs total per corner. The casters are rollers maybe 4" long and 3" diameter, hard material. The device was about $80 IIRC, and of course you'd need at least four for a regular 928. For Errka's project, one for each wheel would be eight total.

Just make sure you get the suspension settled before you align it! Proper alignment will have it going in any direction except the one you want, just like any correctly set up shopping cart.

you may have an insurance claim problem if those tires do not have the correct speed rating
