Steve,

You'll need a second set. The S3 type are made to fit into and onto the round jack points. The 'pin' is too long, and the S4 type tucks under the body for more room for the jack.
...

I have only a few boxes left (check my sig), they can be S3 or S4. They will go to the first people to PayPal.

Ken, you won't be making these anymore? I was going to wait till I fix my ailing jack points.... Also... did do have a version for the... uh... S-zero, or whatever you wanna call a '78?

My simple hand-sketch no-slide-rule calc was that it takes about 175# of lateral pull to get a car to roll off of one of my 3-ton stands at full extension while carrying 1/4 of the car's total weight. There are other factors that muddy the calculation, but the number isn't too far off for most situations we get into on the concrete garage floor. The context of the original discussion was that folks were proposing that a sub-frame made of 4x4's could be used to sit the car even higher on the short stands. Meanwhile, the 6-ton stands have a larger footprint, and so take more lateral pull to roll over when extended to the same height. Of course, at full extension, even the 6-ton stands are cause for some concern. Using the liftbars doesn't change the overturning function of the stand itself, but it does allow you to have a shorter stand with the car at the same height. So long as the bar doesn't roll, that is. Ken's bars have locating pins and saddles that help with that, but users still need to heed his instruction about doing high lifts in multiple steps.

With the costs of lifts so reasonable these days, it seems that almost every "well-equipped" home auto shop should have one. My shop is ready for it, friends are ready for me to have one, but my own cars just haven't needed one yet. Maybe I need to start a "bob needs a lift" thread and let people throw their milk money nickels in it for a while.

Dave,

I realized later that the S3 designation was a misnomer. I should have used S, or OB. Anyhu, they should work on the '78.

I would like every 928 owner/mechanic to have liftbars, but they take a good portion of my 'free' time. At some point, maybe I'll CAD them, and see if someone can make them for me, or license the design.

Well, that's the last one. Thanks Dave, and all who have purchased.

I didn't think I'd ever use up all these custom boxes!

Once these last few are out the door, I'll be able to rearrange my 'shop', and work on other things, again.

Hey Ken,

Am I safe to presume one of the last few sets is going to me? I paid for a pair via PayPal on September 4th for my S4. Please let me know.

Thanks!

Kurt,

I mailed yours a week ago! I emailed you with the tracking number. (I have been having trouble with people receiving my emails from my Yahoo account, though.)

Richard,

You're in the last group of (7) orders. I'm working on those now.

SO, I guess I missed out on these! DANG! I cant even see the pics of what Im missing but it sounds great, Im definitely not comfortable when I have to jack my car up just using the little round points!

Has anyone discussed other solutions to this?
