Er... no... This is not about "what can be done while it's parked" but rather "I'm taking care of these few items, anything else nearby while I'm in there, so I don't have to do this again, and are there any parts I overlooked".

This car is a daily driver for me, so I'm not looking to do a huge teardown. Some of the stuff you mentioned is on the low-priority to-do list -- brakes will be upgraded whenever it's time to replace my existing rotors. Some of the other stuff... well... some of that is about the same priority right now as one of the devices pictured below. TB, for example, is due in ~35K or so.

I have a set of 928 int'l headers, and they fit fine on an 85- so, I think they will fit a 16v also. Could be wrong, but I believe people are putting 32v manifolds on, so this should work also. I can send you pics if interested...

Can you get the clutch out without removing either of the headers?

Mark's recent header deal won't fit 16V or S3, IIRC.

OMG! Thats what it is. Perfect! I am always on the "What can be done while its parked," or "What can I do if I mortgage my house?"

Dave:

I'd like to come by and help out, if I can. I have some chores planned around here (getting the Durango transfer case back in and that car running, rebuilding a front planter box, changing my shocks), but perhaps Labor Day itself will be open if you are still at it.

One other thing I missed earlier -- good suggestion on the oil lines B, but mine are fresh -- maybe 15K miles on them.

Bill, I didn't see that you had posted till I checked my email. Yeah, you're more than welcome. Far be it from me to exclude anyone who wants to be helpful. I'm hoping I'll be done by then, but you never know. If I find that the rack I have needs bushings, then I may have to reschedule -- hopefully not. I do have one volunteer helper Saturday it seems, and I'm optimistic about the amount of time it will take. Maybe too optimistic, but we'll see.

I have the solid rack bushings if you need them.

Bill, if you're referring to the solid mounting bushings, I already have a set of those. I was referring to the bushings that the rack itslef rides on inside the assembly. I gave it a good wiggle, and it didn't move, so it's nice and tight.

So I've heard. Fortunately, this particular rebuild seems nice & tight.
