Doesn't the battery hold-down stay gray? (or black, in some cases?) Never seen a cad-plated one.
I'm going to say that I have. I think the one pictured started out life cad (zinc actually) plated. And I've another GT here with what looks like very faded plating. I can't prove anything with pictures right now though. This one's getting plated.
I note that the hold-downs's bolts are also very faded. Could be that exposure in the box from the unvented battery eats the yellow zinc fast?
The condenser stays aren't yellow-zinc plated on the later 928s. They are on the early ones. The brake line brackets seem to be a mixed bag of black phosphate, black or yellow zinc.
I guess it's kinda sort not part of the engine, it's the air pump/header heat shield:
Awe pheck! Yup. <sigh> 770 parts to re-plate in batch #4 after I dig that phucker out.
here's that hold-down in it's 'original glory' before de-greasing, de-rusting, and first-stage tumbling as pictured in the first post. See the residual yellowness?
Stick a fork in it these are done, this is what happens w/ road salt and sitting in Atlantic cost weather
I had to replace em both, screws were seized/stripped, sealed beams no longer sealed one actually fell apart
Replace sealed beams w/ 7" H4 lenses and LED's

not the best choice of materials by the Germans. Mine are held together with rust proofing and paint
