Default MAF screen damagaed

When I was cleaning the air-filter, I noticed that the MAF screen was separating around its circumference. I didn't have the time to investigate any further, then. I am wondering whether the screen is replaceable, or whether it is an intrinsic part of the MAF?

Watson in his book (on BOSCH injection) describes those screens as the single biggest power restriction in the LH system.......If a particle can get through the air filter, that screen is not going to stop it.
jp 83 Euro S AT 50k, CIS, no screens.

Screens purpose is mostly to try and achieve a laminar alflow across the venturi inside the MAF. They also provide some protection.

Removing the screens will modify the fuelling somewhat. If you're lucky that might help power, but is hit and miss.

I don't believe the screens are the most restrictive part of the 928s intake system. May be so on other cars that Watson has worked on. The 928 MAF is much larger than is really needed.
