Default Boosting the performance of an 84S - best option?

I have begun to hear/read alot about options for boosting performance in my 84 928S 5-spd. From this bulletin board and from the grapevine I've learned that the following options exist:

1. Start by eliminating the feedback of pre-burned emissions to the intake. I'm told this feedback was mandated by US emissions regulations and compromises the flow of fresh air.

2. Install a blower. Seems there are kits available for about $4800. This system is driven by crank action at the engine and improves HP, torque and speed off the block. I'm told it is less efficient than a

3. Turbo. I haven't heard of a 928 turnbo option, but know that these are driven by exhausted air and improve speed at the high end.

4. I've also been told that it's possible to add hardware by which you can, at your own desire, add nitrous to the fuel mixture for stronger combustion. That seems a little George Jetson to me, but then I'm completely new to four cycle engine.

5. Finally, I saw a movie once where some guy got a DeLorean to run on banana peels and old beer...

Thoughts? Experiences?

6. A Y pipe for your car is probably the quickest cheapest way to add some more HP, although it's not a huge amount.

There's a turbo kit for 85-95, www.928turbosports.com, I'm not sure when/if Mark is doing one for earlier cars.

Your SC option is www.928motorsports.com. I think 928Spec. are working on a twin-screw kit for the 16V cars, but not sure when that's coming out.

There's one more option:

7: Buy a GT.

#2...Easy, quick, cheaper than turbo. Once boosted you'll never go back to N/A. http://www.928motorsports.com/parts/Murf928super.php

EGR is on 78-79 US cars, only.

The only current boost setup on a STOCK engine is the SC from 928 Motorsports--a Rennlist sponsor. Works well, easy bolt on or off, and dead reliable.

The TT setup mentioned above is a custom block, custom low compression pistons, full rebuild, custom fuel management......That is why the numbers are so different on only 8 PSI. If you lower the static compression ratio, the boost numbers are not comparable to those with otherwise stock engines. So while the HP/TQ numbers are impressive at a reported 8 PSI, read between the lines when comparing boost numbers on engines without a stock block/pistons. Also realize that to pay someone to duplicate that build at XXX dollars/hour, I would be very surprised if it could be delivered for what a nice '84 sells for.

Jim The block is stock ect for the nickecil so that we can run forged piston,s { stock piston,s are the weakest link if you are boosting. And yes the fuel is managed as well put everything else is stock and if i wnted to i can just turn the *** on the boost...

Mark,

Sorry for the wording. I should say custom long block assembly. What is the static compression ration, what pistons?

BTW, nice car, be safe with it.

jim The block is stock stock bore stock crack stock rods stock gasket sets stock main and rod bearings stock heads stock cams . It uses JE pistons cr is at 8to1.. If i were to turn the boost up on this it would be in the 500rwhp and around 600rwthp or so . It is not yet broken in. Yesterday i was driving down I75 in sarasota i was doing 80mph in 5th and went down into 4th and hit the gas a little and before i know it i was at 125mph..

Mark, I'm not looking to start a pissing match into the wind-nobody wins those.

My stock block is not coated, my stock pistons are not forged low compression pistons with whatever rings match the pistons and coatings (neither is the stock '84 the OP asked about).

I would love to see you jack up the boost and put up those numbers (500rwhp, 600rwtq)with your current setup. Best of luck doing so-- shift it at that 4500 RPM power peak though.

Again, enjoy your car. I'm off to play outside with my kids.
