Previous thread about this project:
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/239222-110mm-bore-928-engine-project-plans-for-a-7-4-liter-in-the-works.html
Most of the custom work on Jim’s car was done by Todd:

These pictures are a 7 liter boosted motor he is building. I do not have exact details yet (bore / stroke / compression). Todd did say something in the ballpark of 20psi at one point.

Todd is calling this version the "peoples" motor. A 5.5 liter using the stock crank & rods. I have lost count as to how many different variations he has created / tested to find out what works. I his opinion, the stock stroke with a larger bore is the best "all around" setup - something that can be easily created for those interested. He feels this setup is ideal with stock camshafts, heads, intake, exhaust etc....
So to answer the question I know some of you are asking - yes, he is setting up to offer this (or any other combination) to the public. Do I dare say this is the “budget” setup?:

Here is a cylinder being created – he starts with a solid piece of steel:

![](http://www.erik27.com/todd/5.5%20liter/55b.jpg )
Here is a family of cylinders sitting next to his test block. He sacrificed the original motor from his car to test various build methods, take measurements etc…

This is Todd’s garage – door behind the 928 is the machine shop

To retard timing under boost – Todd created his own manual retard / advance system. He can manually adjust timing in the car while driving if needed.

You can somewhat see the GearVendor drive unit here - making this a 7 speed 928.

Erik,
What is this "Gear Vendor Drive Unit"?? How does it give 7 gears exactly - I'm intrigued... also how is it controlled?
Very nice work!

As there's no 928 unit listed...which model did he use, and how was it installed.

Todd is great. Honest, straight forward, and a joy to speak to. He always comes through with the very best solution to something that he can think of.
He has dealt with a few issues on my heads that were caused by Fed ex losing them and then damaging them when they found them.

I really like the sound of a "budget" 5.5 liter set up for 12-15 PSI and custom sharktuned. I need to get my car over to Wisconsin!
