Default 928 factory test mule

Anyone see this spy shot? I found it on the Winding Road site, it is supposed to be a test mule for a new Cayman (??) based 4-seat coupe.

Thought for a moment it was a test mule for the new NASA/Porsche Shuttle...

I just asked one of my friends who work for the factory enter about this test mule. You are not going to believe this:

It's been around for years in the acoustics department. It's used to measure tire noises. The intake and exhaust have been moved to keep the underside of the car quieter for more accurate measurements.

Nicole is actually an undercover spy for Porsche, and this is deliberate disinformation. Porsche is interested in producing a series of cars for those who wish to avoid traffic by utilizing canal beds for daily transportation. As such, they are thinking of resuming production of 928's, albeit with modifications allowing the cars to run under water. The quandry right now inside the halls and board rooms at Porsche's headquarters in suburban Stuttgart is just what exactly to call the new product. More than one Teutonic gear-head has been heard to advance the name "Unterseebote"....

Bloody hell- these will be damn popular in Fort Lauderdale, especially during the next hurricane!

Close but no cigar, This is a prototype of a new twin turbo 928; the only way to keep it cool enough is to run under water.
It will be sold as the RhineUnterwassertwinturboFahrzeug or RUF for short

Salamander sounds like a good name, following the use of names like Cayman, another amphibian. Maybe I need to get the works of my friends water proofed Austin Champ and put a 928 shell over the top. These were British army jeeps, with EVERYTHING breathing through a schnorkel - carb, distributors, tank etc, good to ~6ft of water with schnorkel erect. He used to enjoy driving down creek beds with just his upper body and schnorkel visible, trailing a line of exhaust bubbles, but the fishermen reckoned it ruined the fishing.
