Newbie with Pics looking for help
So far my quest to learn how to work on a Shark is moving along at a reasonable pace. What started as my first oil change, has progressed into a much grander project. I’m happy to announce that two Rock Auto Anchor Mounts have been successfully installed. Getting that cross member into the place where it came from with two new MM was a very satisfying experience.
In the process, they’re a few items I found that appear to need attention. The first one being the "Y" connector. Evidently this is a common item.
Then there is the outside air sensor not plugged into anything; however, there is a broken wire in the vicinity. Can anyone confirm they belong together based on the pics or is there a simple way to check?
The air pump has been disconnected, but not removed (which I might do). The lines to the exhausts have been capped, but there is a couple of tubing connectors near the pump bracket that aren't connected to anything. Should these be connected to something or plugged or just left alone.
Finally, when I pulled the alternator cowling off, there was a bunch of insulation type stuff inside. It looked a little dirty, but I couldn't find a supplier for replacement material. Any ideas? Actually, I'm guessing it doesn't belong there and some little critter must have been building a nest. Its rather hard to believe it didn't mess anything else up... anybody ever see anything like this?
This is my first attempt a including pictures so please forgive me if the aren't formatted with the text.

Hi and welcome to rennlist!
I can't help you with the other items, but I have a stainless steel replacement for the Y connector, which will ensure that this piece never fails again.

There should be nothing in the way of the alternator's free breathing. I would suspect the same as you.. something got in there.. Just clean it out and button it back up.

I cleaned out the alternator cowling and replaced the gasket. The reinstall was a little challenging, trying to get the long bolt to line up. Once I got it in, I was a little bummed because I use any anti seize. It’s not too late to redo. Should I?
Not sure how tight to make the belts… any rules of thumb here?
Looking through my notes, my previous mechanic charge 2 hours labor ($186) to RR the alternator cooling hose. That would have only taken me a half-hour MAX!
I’m still trying to decipher the electrical connector to the outside air sensor… can anyone confirm it connects to the broken wire on my original post?
Thanks for all your help… I appreciate it!

Hi while your at it remove the washer bottle, and the washer fill tube and heat the openings up where the rubber supply hose connects with a small pair of neddle nose pliers remove the rusted steel tubing that is sending rust into your washer tank the clamps on the hose dont have to be very tight and thus will not crush the bottle, Replace the Y connector look for the temp sensor on the top of the air duct for the alternator that is where the wire connector plugs into, if it is missing try to get a used part or you could just jumper the wires that it qwill send a default to the HVAC system I think it better to make things right since your this far

Already replaced the “Y” connector albeit before I learned about Nicole’s stainless steel version. I’ll check the washer line for rust. Thanks for the tip.
There is a wire dangling off the end of the alternator cooler hose (temp sensor) but nowhere to plug it in. Then there is a severed wire crossing over the “frame” rail under the headlight (see original pics above). I’m guessing the severed one used to have the receiving plug, but don’t know for sure. I’m hoping somebody who has their splash guard off could confirm this theory based solely on wire proximity.

the two "nipples" you show in the picture are the fill and bleed screws for the timing belt tensioner. nothing should be attached there, but you should be sure the tensioner is full of 90w oil.

Hard to believe this was only four years ago... seems like I've been working on my 928 for ever.
I can laugh now at the $186 labor charge for alternator cooling hose R&R. Needless to say, thanks to you guys around here, I haven't been back to see him since!

Kurt,
Welcome to RL. To get started may I suggest a look the the New Visitor FAQ thread.
Also it may help to include the color of your 928 in your signature because folks with red 928s have been getting dissed around here lately.
Oh, and if you have plans to supercharge, may I suggest you get a beer fridge similar to this....
