Awesome Louis.

JT's motor is going in tomorrow, and getting hooked up this weekend. Hoping to twist the key on Sunday. That means.... I finally get to do some more work on my motor. First thing: Plenum construction. Either a CF or Lexan box, either way I'll have the lexan lid on it. Still monkeying around with spring installed heights.

To be brief (and maybe over-simplify a little) the ITB setup is a narrow powerband, high rpm manifold for a large displacement engine, and as such, is probably more suited to a competition car. And, as such, it does produce very good power in its range.

The dual plenum manifold is designed with competition in mind, (but could be used for a street application also) with the long tuned runners, provides a much broader power and torque curve, starting at a lower rpm. Preliminary dyno tests have shown a substantial horsepower increase over the stock manifold.

The single plenum manifold is designed as a street application, and as such, provides better lower end torque, and much improved mid-range power, combined with the docility and tractability necessary for normal driving.

And to answer your second question, with either of these systems, it is not necessary to sacrifice any creature comforts - your A/C, cruise, smog, etc, can still remain the same.

We do have new photos of the complete exhaust system, they will be posted to the RSRD website shortly. If you like, I can email them to you directly.

ok. how about the hard questions:
how much time can I expect to spend installing it, if I know the diff btween pliars and a dial caliper??

any other "misc items"? ie, injectors, air cleaner, gaskets, linkage stuff, hoses, wiring, etc??

can I paint it and make it look pretty, so my fellow rennlisters don't throw up?? hahahha...

how fast can I get one?

whats best for a 6.5L already pushing 440rwtq??? dual plenum be better to help it breathe a bit???

can a shark tuner/oem compenents handle the change for a stock 5.0L motor. a 6.5L motor??

how about early 5.0 (85/86) and 4.7 or 4.5L ??

might help shed some light on it a bit

thx again!

The sharktuner would tune either the 5.0L or 6.5L (S4 or later ECU). You'd probably need John Speake's SuperMAF for the 6.5L because the stock MAF would limit out before max power.

thx louie. ever installed one of these yet?? iirc, greg at precision did the protypes... they obviously work. but they do look kinda funky, and there WAS a bit of handi work needed... just wondering if it's become a refined kit yet

ie it'd be really cool if it looked at least as good as what I've got/most have, and was more idiot proofed (for me, of course)

Rob don't change that intake it looks awesome, did you port you manifold? I notice you have the spacers on there, where do you get them? You can really clean these manifolds up. Here's a couple of pics of the intake I recently sold to fellow Rennlister.

Marc at Devek has been getting big numbers out of engines using these manifolds and that is enough for me.I don't mind new products either, but I like the OEM look in this case, well in your case Rob OEM with improvements.

Cheers Greg

Wonder if these carbon intakes could handle 15 - 25psi.

They weren't designed as such, but if you are really interested, we can probably increase the layup to handle the pressure.

saw the link, thx david. looks interesting, but is it different than what phil was selling before??

thx greg
didn't do anything inside beyond cleaning 20 yrs of crud out, and use late model/insulated GTS tubes. rumor at the time was that there wasn't much that could be done w/the stock intake. and as you noted, they do get mark T's motors up to 500rwhp or so w/the spacers, so I figured it'd be good enough as is... but, now that I'm used to having all that muscle, I want more/probably don't really need it, but you know how it is w/some of us motorheads/never satisfied for long

my spacers came from greg at precsion motorwerks/anaheim,ca. were around $375 or so at 3/8" thick. gave about 40ftlbs of torque and a few ponies on the dyno... well worth the $$, imo. I'm guessing my stock airbox is probably more of an issue than anything else at this point, iirc it made 20rwhp more w/out the cover on the dyno, but maybe just cause it didn't have a 60mph wind helping it either. hard to tell w/some of this stuff, but mark K, tom and mr ott seem to have had some really good results w/some fairly minor changes on their airboxes

Wanna see how PTG gets part of their 450hp out of a 3.2 liter?

Is that a PTG car? I know one of the M3s did multiple end overs at Mid Ohio recently, wasn't sure it was a PTG car though.
