j/k

I'm wanting some of those for my car really bad, but other bigger projects are on the horizon. If my wallet can make it through the motor swap, maybe then.

The difference is truly astounding. The GTS is a FAST car stock. Put a supercharger on it and it become stupid fast! I'm quite certain that I could now take on a stock C5 Z06 without issue. A modded C5 Z06 could be a different story.

Measure ++++++++++++C5 Z06 ++++++++++++++++ 928GT SC
HP..................................400 (crank - 340 rwhp est.)...459(rwhp)
Torque...........................400 (crank)...........................399 (rwtq)
Curb Weight....................3249 lbs ..............................3600 lbs
Weight/RWHP..................9.5 .....................................7.8

As Ferris Beuler said, "If you have the means, I highly recommend you get one." Once you get used to the horse power, you'll never want to go back. Super fast! Super fun! Totally worth the price.

Certainly you can't be faulted for not knowing how to drive a Z06 since it took me over 2 years to learn how to drive mine correctly as there is much more car than driver.

If you are a drag-racer, then you should be interested in knowing that an average C5 Z06 driver in a completely stock car can do the quarter in 12.2's, and a hot-shot in the same car can do high 11's, with the best doing 11.7's, stock. That is one really quick car, especially for those who know how to drive it.

I was behind a C5 generation Z06 the other day and I was goosing him up the on ramp to the freeway. He stomped it and left my stupid *** GTS sucking it's thumb. Granted, there were two of us in the car with the AC on Max, but still, I got my ***** handed to me. It wasn't even a conversation of worth. Just pissed all over me.
Yes, it sounds like you came across a Z06 pilot who was ready, AND knew how to drive his car.

A stock Z06 puts out on average 350-ish rwhp and weighs 3100 lbs, so taking the weight differential into consideration, any 928 which puts out at least 400 rwhp will be on equal footing with a stock C5 Z06 in a straight line. Whether either driver is up to the task is another matter.

For grins, here how it matches up against the C6 Z06.

Gretch has been munching on vettes for several years now.....gotten to be her very favorite food for saturday breakfast. I too am in my fifties and don't really go looking for this kinda stuff, but every once in a while, cruizing down the interstate, some hot shot in a plastic fantastic makes the mistake of picking on the wrong shark.............. Damn, the look on their faces, may not be priceless, but certainly worth the cost of my Murph Iron Lung.......

Have you encountered a new Z06 yet? Now that'd be a race!

The numbers reflect why everyone is ecstatic when they pull on the top end....the torque and weight should give the vette more scrap down low-- but of course then its all about the extent to which the car can transmit the power to the ground efficiently -- i.e. suspension geometry and contact patch.

Everyone seems to forget that we are comparing an at most 5 year old corvette against an at best 11 year old 928.....the fun part is 928's still hold their own quite nicely.....how many other 15+ year old cars still look modern and perform better than 95% of the other more modern cars....not to mention the price of a base model civic (or less).....

Granted an C6 Z06 will destroy most any 928's......but something on a similar level could give it a good run.....Tims S/C or Tims Beast (must be a Tim thing?) should beat a C6 Z06.....typically the C6 Z06 puts down around 440whp.....but with headers-cams-exhaust I've seen better than 500whp too....all in a car 400lbs lighter than most 928's.....but it still just a another corvette!

I'm pretty sure he would have taken me if we would have started from a dead stop. My car probably has about 400 RWHP. As I said in my original post we started at 75 MPH and I'm pretty sure he missed a gear or didn't even bother to downshift. Still not bad for a 20 year old car vs a 2 year old car.

I wouldn't call the C6 Z06, "just another Corvette".

Have you driven one?

All my friends have sold theirs very quickly (3): something about them wants the guys to bail out real quick: probably because it retains it's "GM" qualities: fake leather, ultra-cheap carpet, & cheesy interior details.

Yes, but it cost half as much as it's closest competitor. The new Z06 is a basically a street legal race car. Some people are more picky then others and that’s just fine by me. then again, I only look for a few things in a car. To go fast, stop fast and handle well. Anything extra is just an icing on the cake.

C5 Zo6s run 12.9-13.2 1/4 miles here from what i have seen. SC ones do best at 12.7, not that their power isn't great they can't transmit that power to the ground. Ive never seen a low 12 Z06 on street tires, and that is what counts when matching one in real world...
