This is the Holy Grail for 928 lovers. Really fun to see that someone has an opportunity to own it! I’m shocked that it is taking longer than 15 minutes to sell at that price. I guess the people in that area aren’t aware of what it is. Must have been fun to drive in that part of France.
There was a writeup of the over the top costs to buy the purple carpet and seatbelt material just for this one car! Porsche had to buy the standard bulk supply of each one.
I tried to make a full price, no questions asked offer in the car and missed it. Somebody is a happy camper that bought it. If I learn more I'll share, but for now it's gone - again.
Lots of GTS’s came with full leather, but not in the US. Rennlist’s users are mostly in the US, so not many pictures of full leathers.
My GTS comes from the US. No leather. Plastic is really better when you live in a tropical island 🏝 No problem with hot sun or humidity on the dashboard.
Now it the right time to share my 2nd of January...
I had the opportunity to inspect this famous car which is still in France, but will return to the USA in the future. Sadly, it wasn't possible to secure her for a member of this board, to my biggest disappointment. It was a very close one, but the situation was complicated and we were unlucky. I'm still upset, but don't think that we could have done better.
The car is in overall good condition but will need a lot of work and love to be absolutely perfect. She was used as a regular car, and shows small damages.
The colours choices are wild but much better in person than what I was expecting to discover.
I really hope that she will be displayed in public once back in the USA, and I'm glad to had the opportunity to see such a unicorn, and share with you these pictures..
Samuel worked har on making this deal happen and I'm grateful for all the time he took on my behalf. The car is truly spectacular and my intention was to take the time and resources to perfect it.
Alas this fantastic project will fall to another. I hope he contacts me if he wants to sell it! Congratulations at any rate!
Much research has been done and I have important information that I gleaned in the process of researching the car while Samuel was trying to make the deal happen.
Andrew and I were super excited about bringing number one and the last production 928 together at the PGP this summer. I encourage the new owner to contact Andrew!!!
Again, huge thanks go to Samuel for following up on this car for me.
In my efforts to prepare for the purchase of this car a friend (90% of his time) and I (10% of his time) have hired a full time Porsche Certified master mechanic.
He used to work for Jimmy Dobbs and prepared this Rothmans car for its sale at Goodings: I think I would have been a good caretaker so there is a little sadness in my heart and my wife? She was a bit in love with Pearlglanzgruen...
Jimmy Dobbs's shop is only a few hundred yards from my new Car Cave. Sometimes it is car heaven on earth!
Sometimes not!
Heres my favorite shot from this adventure with Pearlglanz just peaking out from the back of the Garagiste's lair... ;-)
