When my car was "stock" (no engine mods) I was able to go 168 mph, but it took a while to
get there. Now it gets there faster. Top speed so far has been 180.6 mph, limited by my
tech speed, fastest leg in an ORR event 161.326 mph for 46.962 miles (32 turns).

I have done 165mph in my 87' 928S4 Auto... and my WOT switch is non-functional!!! i bet i can go for 170. The car is stock. In my friends's 1990 928GT, the needle dipped past 300km/h i recall.

Between 175 and 180 down a fairly steep grade for about two miles, and it got there a lot faster than I anticipated. It was the fastest I have driven, and I was amazed at how stable the car stayed. Anything over 140 in my Boxster requires serious attention and a week of Sundays to get there.

I got my euro up to 155 or so...
And as other people have reported, getting up to 130-140 was really fast.
But the last few miles per hour up to the top speed of the car seemed to
take forever to get there. And at those speeds, it is very nerve-wracking.
I wanted to get it to top speed, just to see what it was. And once I started
going that fast, I did not want to back off. But those last 10 MPH or so
were so slow getting there, it was really stressful.
Or maybe it was just stressful because I had one hand
on the wheel, one hand on the camera! Hahaha!

While YOUR numbers are not vindicated, I've learned my lesson -won't remember it- the topic is speed. Collectively, it would appear we have a taste for triple digits regardless of model/year.
As for Texans not being sharp ... I wouldn't know. I'm just stuck here in G -dubs hometown.

Then again, I've always wondered with Barbra Bushs' push for reading and education, Laura 's alleged teaching, and librarian background, and G-dubs failed no child left behind program how we ended up with eight years of the Mr. Dim (40watt) goes to Washington variety show.

The last one was in March and apparently a guy did 209 miles per hour on a bike

in an ORR event. The DEVEK White Car, Don's Gnarly 928, and Todd Carpenter's
89 S4 have run faster legs.
That's 17 mins, 27.957 sec. for 46.962 miles on the first leg of the Gamblers
Run. I checked the results from last years Pony Express, I did a 161.313 for

it"s funny that you bring this up I was just saying to my wife that I need someone to go ahead with a detector then let me open it up problably in the middle of the night I've reached 140 and to get 30 or 40 more seemed reasonable 89s4

139mph on Hwy 99 heading to Bakersfield a few years back in the 82...with some room to spare. 147mph and sweeping hard on I 40 in AZ in the GTS. I know that the 82 had no trouble sweeping 135, but after goosing the GTS, it was another experience all together. I have a witness too! I was calling out the numbers and you could still feel yourself being pressed into the back of the seat. The needle was not sweeping slow either. I was wondering where it would table top, but based on the 147, it wasn't even close!
Top speed is a cool thing. My future plans (someday) is to buy a 90/91 5 spd and do Bonneville....stock, less the mirrors. Then I want to progressively lighten the car and modify aerodynamics and mechanicals in increments to see how fast I can get a normally aspirated 928 to run on the flats. Then, shoe horn some air in there and take it to the next level. Video documentary of the whole process of course.
Should be fun!
