I've just listed some wheels on ebay that would probably work on a 928:

Four 9x16 993 wheels with 70mm offset, and magnesium 8x16 and 9x16 Turbo Cup factory race wheels with offsets in the 50's.

More details here

After reviewing the countless threads on this subject I am confident that I am confused on what will fit on my 88 S4. Can anyone validate this configuration/combination of wheels and tires:

18 x 8.5 Front et 45 225/40-18
18 x 11 Rear et 52 285/30-18

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. After reviewing the excel spreadsheet and the calculator I should be okay in theory. But a second opinion is always appreciated. Any Experience you have to offer is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!!

I am looking at a set of 17x9.5 60mm offset rims for my 928. Thinking about 255/40 on the front and 275/40 on the rear. The rears I am sure will fit fine, I currently have 275/40 tires on a 17x9.5 50mm offset and clear easily. The fronts are my worry. but if a 17x10 65 fits for svp928 on a lowered car I think my plan will work. His rims are 6.35 wider to the outside and inside than my plan, (12.7mm is edual to 1/2 inch). So my 5 mm less of offset makes is made up for with 6.35 mm less on the outer edge of the rim. .I am feeling better about my fitment issues after his fitment. Additionally the iner lip of the rim would be 11.35mm out from the set up he run possibly eliminating the inner rub he has mentioned.

Robert-
The rears should fit fine, but you might have to roll the lip of the fender. My calculator says they will fit without rolling, but you never know until they are mounted as there is a lot of variability from tire mfg to tire mfg.

The fronts are the greatest concern. Most people recommend using wheels with nothing lower than 50mm ET. A 45 will work, but you might experience more "bump steer".

Hope this helps.

I think this should work fine for you. I still don't know where the magic cutoff is for rub/no rub on the fronts for full lock turns. Let me know if you experience any, but as I see it, you're fine.

I agree, you should be fine. Probably need to roll the lips on both front and back.

Andrew

Thanks for the info. I am going to look for a wheel with a higher offset for the fronts. As everyone is well aware, finding the right combination for 928s is quite a challenge.

Thanks again....

Just thought I'd chime in, since I recently went through this myself. I saw 'Iceman's wheels and thought they looked great. They indeed were the new Carerra III wheels (standard on the 997's). I looked into a 'used' set at Wheel Enhancement and picked up a set for a little less than 1/2 of what a new set would cost. They are OE BBS (cast I'm sure, so nothing too special) with the stamp on the inside. The sizes are 8X18 (57offset) and 10X18 (58offset). I have 225/40's on front and 285/30's on rear. The dimensional proportions are similar to the original sizes (although 1 inch larger diameter) and there is no need to any fender rolling on the rear. I think that 235's would work better in the front, but otherwise it's a great match.

Good luck,

I recently purchased 18" wheels REAR 9.5 wide -offset 52 -275/35 tires.
FRONT 8" wide -offset 49 -225/35 tire.
The rear tires are a nice fit with no additional spacers (other than stock) there is about 1/2" of gap between the tire and the inner lip wall you could go wider specially to the inside with a bigger offset number. The front tires stick out a bit more than ideal but are still inside the outside edge of the fender lip. They look great and do not rub turning or other wise but if you plan on lowering the car these would not work for you.

I think you are right that I will need to roll the fronts. I am sure that the rears will be fine as is. I am currently running 275/40 17 tires on 17x9.5 with a 50 mm offset. I currently have 3/8 inch clearence between the unrolled fender and the tire. Since I am gaining 10 mm due to the increased offset I will have room for a wider tire up to 295 if I can find on that has a low enough aspect ratio. thanks for all the help.

I'm pretty damn sure that a 295 tire will require some rolling. It might fit statically, but under load, you'll probably get some rubbing.

Went ahead and ordered the wheels, I'm commited now. Will go with 255/40 on the fronts and keep the 275/40 tires I currently have on the rear. Currently running Sumitomo HTR ZII. With the wider lower profile fronts I should see a gain in turn in and a decrease in understeer. I will leave the swaybar settings constant, for now. But I may be able to stiffen the bar with the increased grip of the larger footprint tire on the front. Who knows with better grip I may be able to keep up with Herr Kemph, not.
