Post GTS engine or lower block wanted (no kidding); or meticulous 88 S4 w/o engine forsale

I'm seeking an engine or a lower block for a GTS. I recognize that this will not be easy to find, but I'm putting the word out there.

The issue: I bought a meticulious black 1988 S4 with 71,000 miles on it a month ago. In a fluke, the brake master cylinder failed, the brakes went on, I assumed it was the transmission not shifting out of first and put the engine under way too much load when I did not stop immediately, effectively blowing the engine.

The ideal outcome: Before I put about $12k into replacing or completely rebuilding an engine on a car I bought less than a month ago, I'd like to turn this into a win.

I'm seeking a GTS engine or GTS lower block I can put new heads on to effectively convert my S4 into a GTS. I will need the computer chips, fuse board and fuel pump also.

If I find this and do the conversation, I'll have the parts, computer, etc from the S4 available for anyone who wants them.

Alternatively, I'm seeking a super low mileage S4 engine (i.e. less then 30k on it).

Finally, If someone wants a meticulious black 88 S4 (9.5 or 10 out of 10) that they want to do the engine rebuild on themselves, and offers me something to buy my car that makes it worth cutting my losses, I'd do that too. I'm in the San Francisco area. It's meticulious, black, new tires, everything working, all wires, parts, everything associated with the engine up to date, so you'd have a stack of extra replacement parts to go with your new engine or lots of new parts to go with your rebuild. It also has new Toyo tires, custom wheels, custom stereo, etc.

I spent months looking for one in this great condition. So, if you're someone that can do the engine work yourself rather than pay a mechanic, you'd have a fantastic car.

Ah...." Before I put about $12k into replacing " who in the world have you been talking to about an engine ? a good used engine is $4,500 stuffing it another $1,500 or so .....that is $6,000 not $12,000 and running your engine at full load against the brakes should not have damaged anything in the engine.

It might also be a good idea to post your location, so someone can relieve you from the pain this shark is inflicting on you...

I don't see how that is possible. If the master fails you should have no brakes. Even if the master seized locking the brakes on, the worst that would happen is you'd stall the engine. You'd destroy the slushbox long before you caused any harm to the engine.

Something is wrong with the advice you are getting. You can put in a GTS motor w/o changing the fuse panel or fuel pump. Jim already commented on the rebuild costs. As Matt said, the failure scenario is suspicious too, but we'll assume something bad happened to your motor. Perhaps you had thrust bearing failure.

Is it apart? Do you know the heads are good?

I live in the area and would be glad to help out in any way I can.

The brake BOOSTER may have failed and applied the brakes there is an internal switch which senses when you step on the pedal and uses vacuum to help you push. They occasionaly fail and apply the brakes. You have a great resource available to you in Bill Ball You should really consider letting him and other enthusiasts help you with examining your car before you decide what course of action you wish to take.

yeah something is not making sence here. the engine or clutch would have went long before a 928 engine? what are the symptoms that make you think the engine is blown

I'd be glad to look at the car. I'm not experienced with 928 engine rebuilds, but there are a bunch of us in the area who enjoy nothing more than trying to help resolve problems with these cars. So, if you are unsure at all of what's really wrong or how to proceed, we might be able to help by taking a look at the car.

You want nothing to do with that car. You had better sell it to me for $5K
