I certainly understand that the Cafe Rustica sounds very tempting. We will keep this in mind for the next fun drive to the area.
To better understand my choice for Cafe Fina, you need to understand a bit of how the idea for this drive came about: When Bill Swift started planning for his visit to the Bay Area, he told me that he wanted to visit Monterey on the way back from his visit here in the Bay area. So what better could we do than have a fun drive to Monterey with our guest?
If we stop in Carmel Valley, and spend too much time there, we won't be able to visit Monterey AND go down to the waterfall. - if we eat in Monterey, at least we'll be able to soak in the atmosphere, be at the water, etc.
I have eaten at the Cafe Fina last year on the way back from Sharktoberfest. The food was excellent, and so was the service. And it's not overly expensive for lunch. Only downside is that we'll have to pay for parking - sorry for that.
Maybe next time we can try the extended route along 25 and end up in Carmel Valley at Cafe Rustica. This will not be our last drive together, and it won't hurt to keep some ideas for next time. Then we'll have something new to look foward to.
For now, I'm looking forward to this drive on Sunday, and to seeing you all again!

Let's leave an hour earlier. So simple. Then we could stop at Cafe Rustica and have an appetizer, check it out, give the locals the chance to see wondrousness multiplied by our numbers, and proceed on to Monterey and the agua.

Thanks for settling things, Nicole. The route is set then. The lunch stop it set. I will finalize the maps. We should have a cell phone master list per chance someone gets separated.

Mine is the city jail. ANY city jail. Can't make bail so I sit in jail cooling my tail with no mail. (but I have a friend who you can call and his number is 408.720.9146; he won't admit he knows where to find me, but he can)
Nicole I won't show you that Carmel experience if you persist in bossing me around. The guards do enough of that.

Nah, Ron, now worries. I don't bite, and you know it. I tried to explain earlier why we picked Monterey as the destination, and next time we'll pick something else. I hope you'll join us for lunch there.

I just noticed the routing software actually goes off 101 after waypoint 8 taking a series of backroads that looks straighter, avoiding most of 101, skirting Prunedale and Salinas. Not sure it's worth it to leave 101, but I'll leave it that way for now. You can see this in the preliminary route map.
