Default Oooooh.....Oooooh....my *** is getting bigger!

Have a look what I just picked up.

94 GTS rear QTR panels. I have the fuel door on the way from Germany.

I will decide in the next few days if it will be the whole panel, or just the flares that get installed.

Can't wait for the new ***!

I'd say skin. I don't think the car would be the same if you went that car into the unibody. Just my advice.

Nice! If you replace the whole quarter, you can make it stronger than it was before, but it's a lot of work...

apparently removing the skins is also not so straightforward due to the number of spot welds that need to be ground out.

That 94 GTS is alive in a number of cars. RIP

Brendan,

If I went with the whole panel, it would just be the skin replaced. The spot welds are cut, and then the whole panel put in the same way. That’s how the panel comes from factory. I don’t have to worry about structure though. My body shop’s B-man is a metal master. Everything he does exceeds factory quality. The guy gets 2-3 job offers from other shops a year.

Carl,

Garth,

Thanks, guess I’m going to have to have those new wheels soon.

Dave,

Yes, as I wrote above, my guy is a master. And yes it is a lot of work, so I’m hoping to get the panels to the shop today so we can asses which way to go. Just doing the flares will be half the cost, and half the trouble, but I don’t want to have any issues down the road.

Rixter,

I picked the panels up outside Boston on Tue. I was hoping to get down to DC Auto to see you and Rob (and your 928 inventory), but time was not working out.

Roger,

There is not much left of that baby. Just a roof, gas tank + pump, and rear suspension. Guess it is not only picked to the bones, but the bones are being carried off as well.

The factory replacement panel goes all the way to the roof so no matter how you slice it your guy will have to splice it. You might mention to him that the foam in the B pillar behind the door emits poisonous fumes when overheated. Book time for a full skin replacement with new parts is about 24 hours per side.

OK, after sizing everything up at the B-shop today, we decided to go with most of the QTR panel skin. The conversion will be cut at the first seem inside the B-pillar (I don’t want the hassle of getting a V.I.N. door sticker re-issued from Porsche) to the bottom of the C-pillar, and then all the factory welds.

It will be twice as much $ as just looking at the flares, but we decided there is no way to just add the flares and have a proper quality job in the end.

Can’t wait to start carv’in!

Yup. And our '94 is one of them.

Oh well. Better that all the parts live on in other sharks than crushed or rusting.

Still... 24k-mile GTS. Dead. Carl and I saw that car when it was still in one piece (mostly).

Does anyone know who got the motor?

What happened to the whole car to begin with?
