Modified my exhaust again
I decided to shorten my exhaust for several reasons:
1) Get rid of all those power robbing bends at the back of the system.
2) Drop a few pounds off the rear (dang near 25 lbs)
3) Go even more aggressive with the sound. (I'm obnoxious, can't help it)
4) Help git rid of exhaust soot on rear bumper cover.
I went ahead and cut the exhaust off the back, 4" behind my mufflers(which reside where the intermediates would normally go. Then I just installed a pair of clamp on turndown tips. Very clean and easy.
It sounds great to me, but it's definitely not for the average 928 owner. At idle, the car sounds like a pro-steeter, but quiets down under acceleration. The only thing I don't like about it, is that the car lost some of that "European" sound, and could probably be mistaken for a 4 valve Mustang now. Other than that, I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. We'll see on May 13th what the dyno has to say about removing the bends.

Chris,
I thought you were going to modify it with a rear mounted turbo? I'll miss you at 2006 SITM and next year, my children have graduation the same weekend.

I was going to go the rear mounted turbo direction, but health issues the last year have financially negated that. One of these days I'll be financially viable again, and WILL force feed this beast, as she deserves it!!!!!!!! LOL.
I'll try and get some pics this evening and post them. Unfortunately no way to get a sound file, but ya'll can hear it at SITM. Sorry you won't be there Rick. How is your beast coming along???
No Riva yet. That's the biggest part of the car that doesn't look right too.
Tony, are you flying or driving this year???? Sure would love to see your beast in person!!!!!
Mark, this car just screams that the owner is a little off center!!!!! LOL.
Hope to see everyone at SITM. We are going up on Saturday morning instead of Friday afternoon, but we'll still see you all at the hotel, and leave from there to the mountain.

Chris..."The only thing I don't like about it, is that the car lost some of that "European" sound, and could probably be mistaken for a 4 valve Mustang now." Should sound the same as any other V-8 engine there is nothing unique about the firing order /sound of the 928 engine....NOTHING except a higher redline than some. Dumping the exhaust under the car is simply wrong in my opinion. I broke the Y-pipe under the very brown and did a couple laps that way it actually cooked paint off the underbody sounded pretty neat ....in an old Chevy pickup no muffler way.

I have to disagree dear Mr Bailey :-) ... the 928 heads are unique, squish esign is unique, chamber shape is unique, intake resonance and exhaust resonance are unique ......

If you lop off the exhaust throw on some glasspacks about all you are going to hear is the exhaust and my poor old abused ears hear a V-8 as a V-8 . Stock or nearly stock Porsche did tune the sound no question about that.
