I've used it before with no problems.

But - if your jackstanding there for doing MM's - you're gonna have to loosen that skid plate & control arm! So you'll need to find another point.

Yes, but make sure the jack stand is actually touching the car!

No it's not okay. It is unsafe. There is no need to use that anyway.
Use the lift points at each corner inside the wheelbase. If you place your jackstands there, you can perform any repair you want.

I need the normal jack points to get the car up in the air.

PorKen's Lift bars look to be the way to go

My 91 S4 is sitting on the same place you have yours, Bill made sure they were touching We pulled my TT today and the car was rock solid using that spot for the jack stands. With that said I still want the lifting bars at some point

I did turn mine the other way and let it drop down into the saddle...

"lift points at each corner inside the wheelbase"? You mean the factory jack points on the frame rails?

Yes, the factory lift points . If you are going to raise your car, you should use those for the jack stands. Look at the shape of the jack stand. It is designed to cradle a frame rail. That piece in your picture doesn't have enough surface area to be stable. Ideally, you should have four jackstands on the lift points and the car should be level.(Jack the car in the center w/ a piece of wood, at 90degrees) All the weight of the car should be headed towards the center of the earth. With the car up and level, you shouldn't be able to rock the car at all. There are lots of ways to support the car that seem safe, but only only one that will be safe, allow you to make every repair no matter how much force is applied. Also, best money you can spend is on a decent floor jack. The one in your picture should be thrown away. Think wide, long and at least double what your car weighs. Or, buy lots of life insurance.

Also - hats off to porken and his gadget , but a 2 x 4 on the frame rail works great and it can be removed.

I use those skid plates for jack stands if I'm just lifting the front. They work great. My car is on 4 stands (well sitting on 3 with the 4th just keeping it from rocking on the others) in the factory lift points. The trick is the jack from the skid plates you have pictured and the rear crossmember. Lift the front first (for ground clearance under the spoiler), then lift the rear. I do it in increments from front to back until I reach the height desired.

I lift the rear using the centre of the cross member before putting jackstands under the rear official lifting points.

If you lift the rear first it will also raise the front (which seems weird but it does) so you can easily get a pair of trolley jacks under the skid plates you have pictured, then you can put a pair of jack stands under the front official lifting points.

I use the tranny crossmember to lift the rear then the jackstands go under the jack points. In front I use the jack at the jack point and use the front arm mount for the jackstands as shown in the picture. Been doing it for 4 years without issues. Just make sure nothing moves as you are jacking it up.
