Hi guys-
I am getting my 928 collection ready so that I can sell it.
The collection currently consists of four 928s.
I am selling them for one reason only and it really breaks my heart to have to do this.
I had a total hip replacement on my left side last year and now I am unable to drive them (it’s against the doctors orders to sit in that seating position.)
I have replaced these cars with a Mercedes SL coupe.
I will probably list them on Autotrader as that seems to be the best venue for selling vehicles.
As a side note, I just sold a 1994 Diesel Chevy Tahoe/Blazer today.
It only hit the Autotrader magazine on 3/31/06.
It was sold for full asking price.
Anyway, enough rambling, would any other fellow 928 owners be able to provide insight as to what fair pricing for these cars would be?
Here is a break down of the cars, including year, color combo, trans, mileage, and overall condition.
1. 1979 –India Red with Black Leather, 5 Speed Manual, 82K miles, the paint is original and the leather interior is in fairly decent shape – only has one seperation on the stitching of the drivers seat. I would rate it as an 8.5 on a scale of 1-10. Original 15” phone dials. No Sunroof.
2. 1979 – Grand Prix White with Caramel Leather, 3 Speed Auto, 81K miles, was repainted the original white 1.5 years ago – it is a very nice paintjob. Was purchased as the previous property of Presidential candidate H. Ross Perot. Have ½ thick stack of receipts for this car totaling $11K – including timing belt and water pump. This car has no known problems. Original 15” phone dial wheels. I would rate it at 8.5-9 out of 10. No Sunroof.
3. 1982 – Black with Black Leather, 5 Speed Manual, 98K miles. The paint is original and the leather interior is in a great shape. Has Competition Package with 16” dish wheels and hand painted center caps. No known problems – hasn’t been run lately. About an 8.5 out of 10. Has working sunroof.
4. 1986.5 Grand Prix White with Navy Blue Leather – 4 Speed Auto, 93K miles. The paint is original and the interior is immaculate – this best of the four cars. Has sunroof and polished/chromed 16” dish wheels. Everything works as far as I know. I would rate this as a 9.5 out of 10.
Over the past three years the last three cars listed were daily drivers.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
If you need more info about the cars please let me know.
Thank you for your help.
Vincent

Wow. Sorry to hear of your predicament. When I saw the thread title I was thinking, "The wife is a doctor". My mistake.
I hope a couple of your cars can stay local so you can still visit them.
Good luck.

Hi Randy-
This is not a for sale post.
Please do not move/delete it.
I am only trying to get a feel for what the pricing should be once they are ready to be sold.
James, thanks for the kind words. I'm 20 and not married.
Best regards,
Vincent

I would not feel right doing that.
It would tear me apart watching them deteriorate.
I hope that they will go to someone that will appreciate them for the fine vehicles that they are.
Best,
Vincent

I was thinking, your twenty and have a hip replacement? Funny how people think differently. That black on balck one sounds interesting to me.

1/4 Agreed. No harm in keeping one for pleasure driving after the healing. Does Andrew's shrine work only for 928s or does it also work for drivers? Sometimes alternative "medicine" can do wonders - the 86.5 automatic may offer good German alternive medicine????
Anyhow, I haven't bought a Porsche in over a decade, so I am not much help with market values. I do know that if you look at the annual market report in the Porsche publication, they tend to run a little optimistic. But if your cars are in really good shape with service history, etc, that may a good source to quote for potential buyers.
Ok, now that I am known to not be a credible source for pricing...wild guesses:
1) a few thousand
2) a few thousand
3) a few thousand plus a couple hundred
4) five to nine thousand

I hate doctors and the belief system that they thrust upon people (Except for Gynos like Bigs - he can stay). I need to ask:
How the hell is the seating position in the SL different then the 928? Does he mean clutches? Because an auto would do.
Now, if you are just getting out the 928 scene for whatever other non-doctor ordered reason, then fine.
