oh yeah... and the flak you get doesnt always go away even when you marry em..... my father in law has been attempting to give my wife & I both grief for 25 years now about my choices of cars.... all the while even now at 65 he owns seven motorcycles and a 40+ foot $200k motorhome(paid cash no less!)..... yet we "waste our $$" on sportscars according to him! So that "competition for the daughter's affections" doesnt go away with some dads! We've learned to give him every bit as much grief back at him using his own logic he tries to use on us. He always starts it & can't go long without trying to rib us about the futility of us owning such cars, but I long ago learned how to banter back with him & shutting him up in a calm, sarcastic banter, all the while without really offending him. Myself.....well... as for my 16 year old daughter, I'm not so sure I'd want her dating a guy driving any supercar at this age. The guy she eventually marries...well yeah.. that'd be great if he is a car guy, of any kind, especially a Porsche 928! But not at 16. Heck, my wife & I are happy that her boyfriend doesnt even have his permanent license yet. Not that you cant have a poor driver of any age wrap a Caprice around a telephone pole, or a talented teenage driver drive safe with a supercar. But lets look at averages.... most 16 year old males do not need to be driving around hoping to impress their female counterparts in a supercar. Least, not from the standpoint of most parents of those 16 yr old females! If he is your "competition" for her affections, to know your adversary & their standpoint goes a long way to be the one who wins out in the end... and that has nothing to do with who's car is a sissy car or who'd win in a race. And in the meantime, as you said..... You ARE dating his daugher!

Mel has a point. Don't challenge the dad. Especially to a race. That would not help your cause. But I do like the idea of letting him borrow your car. That would be a nice gesture and he could see why you like the 928. But I have a feeling that he will be a little disapointed going from a manual viper to an automatic 928. But he will still enjoy himself. The biggest thing is that at this age in his daughters life he is starting to see his daughters attention focus on another male, maybe for the first time in her life. She is growing up and thats hard for some dad's to take gracefully. Be polite and respectfull to him, and treat his daughter like he would treat her, and you will be golden. Get in good with the parents and things will be easier for you in the long run. Good Luck !

Dude..go out and get some track time..some DE's ...some skills days...and then take him out to the track with his Viper.....

Where was the Viper in 87? nowhere Dodge was too busy making junk for the masses, while Porsche was producing only the best. Vipers are great for the track but what took Dodge so long(duh we better make a sports car!). Porsche always has and always will be at the forefront of design and technology. Oh and those trucks, come on now, another gimmicky vehicle, reminds me of another crappy Dodge product the PT cruiser retro look thing. Chev should be ashamed of the HHR

These threads are pointless. If you buy things fearing what other people think you are going to either have a very unhappy life or end up buying what everyone else has. Thicker skin is a prerequisite for bucking the trend. Personally I don't give a rats *** what others think. I buy for "MY" needs and satisfaction not anyone elses.
