Default "Totalled" SC 928 going up for auction

Some of you may remember our Gold 79 928 5-speed - we wrote the SC installation manuals using that car for the photos, and posted many dyno sheets from that car.

We eventually built it up to include our complete Stage 2 SC 928 with Fuel Enrichment CIS, and it was reliably putting down 340 HP and 382 Ft Lbs Torque.

It out-lived its usefullness for us here, and we decided to turn it over and get a later-model 928 with the money to develop other products.

That Gold, Leather, 5 spd, Supercharged, Stainless-Steel Borla exhaust equipped, 928 sold for $9600 on eBay about 2 months ago.

On its way to its new owner, it was totalled. By a pencil-pusher.

The 928 arrived in Philladelphia with a hole through the floor behind the passengers seat (up from the bottom), a hole in the front bumper (thru the license plate and the bumper cover), a burned-out clutch, a blown supercharger belt, and about 50 miles on the odometer that should not have been there.

Seems like somebody in the transport business re-enacted "Ferris Buehllers Day Off" with it...

The insurance company called it "totalled" and wrote the owner a check for the car.

I know it still starts and runs, and the owener shipped me the supercharger and I already repaired it before the car was declared "totalled" so that is already fixed.

I have not seen the car since it left here, do not know the rest of its condition, so please do not ask. I am not selling the car. I do not own it.

This post is for information purposes to Rennlist members - I have located the car and found out that it will be going up for auction on Monday, April 3rd, at Noon EST.

It is being auctioned in Lot#2069426 by CoParts. It is an internet auction, and you may register and view or participate in the auction at www.coparts.com

It has some nice parts on it, and a complete Stage 2 16v CIS SC kit. The engine was strong, and well documented.

I just hope somebody snatches a bargain - and keeps a nice 928 from the scrap heap.

Here is one of the many posts here on the Rennlist that featured pictures of that car: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/222402-stage-2-kit-yields-347-hp-on-a-1979-a.html

WHOAH!!!!! That really sucks! do you know how the holes got there? I know that it must hurt you especially to see a car that you built and cared for end up like that. I would be furious. I hope that someone on rennlist ends up buying it.

Carl,
Man I am sorry to hear about the shark. I realy wanted to bid on that car but couldn't at the time. I bought another 79 and would love to merge the two together. Thanks for letting us know and for all the other stuff that you do for the rest of us

Lets draw straws or something to keep from bidding against each other.

Let’s see who can stand there with their hand on the car the longest.

Carl - no interest on your part to own the car again?

Randy - can you turn the wife filter for this thread? I don't need Lorelei seeing this anytime soon.

She is still a bit miffed about the 88 S4 I bought on my way to the airport - on the way to my wedding. She was traveling separately, was not able to intervene. The Best Man’s Mother was in the front seat reminding me how I’m supposed to be responsible now that I was getting married. I politely reminded her that up until the day of the wedding is one long bachelor party.
I didn’t go to a strip club, I bought another 928 – that’s not so bad, is it?

Well of course they totaled it. It's a 79 for cryin' out loud. That sucks for the owner. I actually bid on that car half heartedly. I had too much going on at the time to take on another car. The hole behind the seat is the one that sounds the most odd. The one in the front could have happened any number ow ways but to puncture the floor board is just obsurd. Good luck on your bidding Hacker. This is a cool little OB.

About the only way to punch a hole up through the floor is to do some off roading jumps and land on something strong and sharp. What a waste ! is the blower back on the car ? will it be there AFTER the auction ? It is amazing how many things seem to grow legs and go missing in the secure impound yards. Carl was there any discussion of suspension damage ?
