Default Airbag warning light

my airbag warning light turned on yesterday during regular driving. Now it comes on at every startup and sometimes again during driving.
What can I do to troubleshoot?
Thanks,

Hi Sab,
Beg borrow or steal a diagnostic tester. Find what the fault code is and investigate.

Bear in mind though - sometimes eronious fault codes can be stored. It's a good idea to do a battery disconnect and drive the car a little before running a diagnostic.

Although an airbag fault code on your MY car can't be cleared with a Spanner, it will display the fault codes. You need a Hammer to clear the code.

I had a GTS here a couple of weeks ago with an airbag code and fault light on. We cleared the code with a Hammer and it hasn't reappeared after many miles, so that one was a spurious code.

Sab, like John said, you need to read out the diagnostic codes to see what to do next.

If, like a few other cases I've seen over the last few years, it turns out to be a "lead resistance high" fault on one of the front crash sensors, you might want to read the following threads (listed from oldest to newest):Good news if this (the "lead resistance high" fault) is the case: it's a low cost problem to fix (just some contact cleaner), assuming you have access to a Hammer or JDS Porsche Spanner (nice device; I've got one) for reading out the fault and resetting it.

Oh... a question for John: does the Spanner with the latest software allow air bag fault reset on more than just '90s? Last I heard, it only performed this function on '90s (I got lucky!)

Don't know if they are the same, but the same thing happened on my 91 944 and it was fixed by cleaning the contacts on the crash sensor. Didn't do the work myself so I don't have any other details.

thanks for the info. I will unplug and clean the sensor connectors.
How will I find them easiest?
