If you don't get this done sooner consider trailering it down for Sharktoberfest next year. I am an Electronics Engineer and have been all through the wireing on both of my cars and am not intimidated by 928 wiring at all. With two young kids getting up to the bay area is a problem but if there car were down here I could donate a day (more than enough time) with no problem.

Swiss cheese pod. Nice!

Sorta like the joke from my bicycle riding days when the weight saving nuts
start going gonzo with the electric drill. Ultimate weight saving: Cross-drilled water bottle.

I sure wish I could join in the fun! But alas, I'll have to be an arm-chair coach.

I considered just wiring the car from scratch but I nixed that idea. Porsche does a much better job crimping wires than I can ever do plus I wanted to be a able to refer to the factory wiring diagrams if necessary. I started by removing all unecessary fuses and relays and then I started the car and checked all functions. Next I removed the fuse panel and removed all wires associated with those missing fuses and relays. That job was more difficult than it sounds. I reinstalled it and again checked all functions. Next I removed all unecessary wires. I'd be happy to take some pictures of my relay panel if it helps but since mine was all from a 1989 I'm not sure it will do much good.

Mark:

That's exactly what I have been trying to do. I recall there wasn't much left of your panel. I'd like to get to that point. A photo or two of the panel would be VERY heplful. Thanks so much.

Bill, for what it's worth, I really appreciate you. I'm not so into this idol worship thing, so I'll be short. I think you're a great guy and a friend, and I really am very thankful for all your selfless help with my Bay area purchase / water pump replacement, as well as your always-positive input. OK well you did kick low around a bit, but other than that

Hman, yes, let's can the idol worship. I lucked out that my 89 has so few problems - I mean, original rack at 160K miles, no TT issues, etc. Not even the door handle or door stays! So, I need to learn on other peoples' cars. Even after a bunch of TB/WP jobs, new stuff keeps popping up. I wouldn't have wanted to miss an opportunity to see Matt's broken TT, and I get to try out replacing one on his car! So, this thread is rather embarrassing, but if it helps get me over the hump with the electrical rework on my 79, I'll put up with it.

Bill,

I have a wiring diagram that I made when doing my track car. Should help out. I used a bunch of the existing wiring to the motor, but removed the entire relay panel. I have a few switches, one main relay and a small fuse block. I'll look for it and email you a copy.
Hey, have to do some sort of payback for lyou lending me your wheel a few years ago!

Great idea and long, long overdue. Just name the day and I'll be there.

Bill - if you don't want to tackle the track car, how about the LSD install? (By the way don't mod it into a locker, mine just blew up.) We've got to get you doing two wheel burnouts.
