Your P.O. is full of B.S. His mechanic was too lazy to put them back on. The car was designed to have them in place and the engine runs cooler WITH them in place. There are also NACA ducts in the plastic tray that direct cool air to the engine mounts, a very necessary function. If you would like debris and other assorted foreign objects hitting your oil pan, belts and pulleys, be my guest!

If that's true, there is something not quite right. It should run cooler with the belly pan. Also it will be more stable at speed with the correct pan in place.

Not to hijack the thread, but will an OB run cooler with a belly pan? I don't have one...

Yes, slightly cooler. Slightly more stable at triple digits. The early cars had a very short belly pan.

Do a search here on "belly pan", and you'll find all kinds of reasons to put one on...

Shark without belly pan like U-boat without hatches. Cannot submarine through air, must bop along on the surface, easy target for Corvette......

Come to think of it, the similarites of a Corvette (car) to it's namesake are interesting. Fiberglass and all, hell, it might even float! I know the late 70's/early 80's did float over the road!

"Float" or hydroplane.............my '73 hydroplaned......no question about it. Oh yeah, and they burn like a house afire..........., but they do go like greased lightening, both characteristics of their namesake............

Hahahaha - Dave look how little your's is!!!

Hey Loaded - I'm very thankful to have mine on the car - they offer protection from bottoming out at low spots. Every time I take mine off, I'm suprised to see that they're a little more "used". Also, if you have a later model, 87+, you'll have 2 belly pans, a front and a rear.
