Alan I am glad you found those! Harness should be available from the dealer. I'm sorry I wasn't able to get the details on the black ones for you
Heinrich
ps: They make a major difference and are a lot safer.

Sorry. I was scanning for a part number... I now see it "Golf/Jetta Mk4".

I'd definitely pick up a couple of those if the part number or vehicle application for the black ones were figured out.

Andrew - be aware there are similar looking versions without the switches - don't get those (unless you wanted them in the doors too... might work well there).

Sterling - none of these have soft off - as far as I know no car manufacturers built this feature into the fixtures it is in the central controller... and that how we'd need to do it on our cars too...

Thanks for the tip.

Couldn't you put some type of capcitor in each one of these that would give you the soft off? Just curious.

Andrew - err simple answer no! conceptually it almost works but you'd need a capacitor much bigger than the housing, with LED lights it might almost work... It can't give you soft fade-up though - at least not without sacrificing some lamp brightness which with an LED is probably not such a good idea.

Like I said... just curious. If it were that easy... I'm sure you would have already thought about it.

After going to the opost office today, I stopped in at the VW dealership across the street. On their used car lot they had an '05 Jetta GLI sedan with the 1.8L turbo engine and a black interior. I looked inside and the two rear seat dome lights were the same as the black ones that are in the pictures Heinrich posted earlier in this thread.

I went inside to the parts department and had the guy there look up the part number for them. If asked, it's supposed to be an early '05 model. According to him the part number is 3B0941219BB41. The B41 at the end of the part number designates that it's the black colored light. I didn't ask about other colors, but saw gray and beige lights like that on other cars that they had on their used car lot, so at least those colors should be available as well.

My commuter car is a '00 Jetta TDI. Tonight I'll have a quick look, but I think the lights at the rear are identical to the one H. posted. My interior is beige (including the switch), my neighbour has a '00 1.8T Jetta and he's interior is black and so is the switch.

These light should be the same for Golf/Jettas (Generation IV) starting with model year '99.5 until the new ones came out in '06. Its quiet possible that since the new Beetle is based on the Golf platform, the light will be the same too. Also, the same year Audi A4s might share these parts too.

I've checked it this morning. Those light are the same for all Gen. IV Golf/Jettas. They shoudl be easy to find new or even used.

Default one approach

I'd love something to just splice inline too. However, here is some additional information on doing it the old fashioned way (fitting, I suppose): http://wac.addr.com/ee/dimmer/dimmer.html

This version seems rather over complex for what it does...
