Many thanks - been aware of this issue for many years, but not realised there was such a simple solution.
At least I can add these to a parts order I need to make with Porsche, rather than call up to ask for two clips.

When my clip went AWOL I put a small dollop of epoxy on the shaft to prevent the arm going "walkies".
Eventually I got a pair of those modified clips- they look awful but I am sure they are effective. The dremel removed the blob of epoxy in seconds.

This afternoon, I finally got around to replacing the prone-to-dislodge E-style retainer rings ("circlips") with the nice, safer McMaster 94824A400 "external retainer rings" (a bag of these have been sitting on my workbench for a few months). Figured I'd add a post to this thread to serve as a yet another PSA to those who haven't done this yet.

Hey Ed,
How many did you have to buy? If you have any extra you need to sell off ,I'd be happy to pick up some from you. I've lost both of my clips.
Thanks,
Rich
