Thanks everybody for this thread. I checked and, as of right now, I have the C clips. Odd how the failure of a two cent part will cause catastrophic damage to the cooling system.

Reading this reminded me to check again, (did 3 months ago), and today the botom clip is missing, better try the size from Ace as described, and be diligent to check on a regular basis.
Thanks,,,,,,,

With a bunch of new 928 owners out there over the past year I thought I would bump this one up for all the newbies to see.

I'm guessing that most Ace's nut & bolt vendor is the same. Anyway, this vendor is Hillman in Ohio. The stock numbers for these are as follows:
E Ring: 873-L
Washer: 2817-B
Ace is the place. I replaced both of mine and carry 4 spares. I check every time the hood is opened.

Wow. I knew the c-clip issue existed, and have checked mine often, but I did not knw the motor would auto-cycle. I guess they really mean it when they say "Step 1. Disconnect the battery"...- Ruf

Doesn't anybody have something more reliable than a C clip yet?

That whole post should be replaced with something harmless.

The is a star clip for one time usage. You have to break it to remove it, and they are usually stainless. I would worry about ion interaction when mixing metals. A snap ring might work too, has anyone tried them or E clips?

Cheers,

I found this removable locking clip in the PET that is the correct size and will work great. So no more worries or unnecessary looking under the hood.

You need two, and can order them from Porsche or any of the Big-3. Use this part number and nomenclature:

999.166.005.02 sl-lock

This part is used on the S4 automatic shifter mechanism (PET shifter mechanism, item 9). If you want to see another SL-LOCK, without disassembling the console, but of a larger size, the throttle pedal mechanism also uses one.

I checked mine... not a problem, but I appreciate the heads up… such an easy check.

Now if I can only get around to unboxing Porken’s lifts bars and using a recently acquired micrometer... perhaps the TBF will be adverted.

I’ve added the Halon fire extinguisher and plan on replacing the fuel lines soon. I don’t have a spare LH or MAF and hope they are good for a few more clicks.

It’s always something to watch out for… What would we do without this site?

Here's the SL-LOCK clip.

You still need the backup washer, but this installs in place of the C-clip. The lock feature keeps it in place.
