Default Exhaust popping, upon de-acceleration

I've taken my cat. off and put in a straight pipe, the car has always had a de-acceleration popping to it, sounds like a farm truck, I've also got a RMB, but now its very loud when it does it. So I went and got a resonator installed, its now a little better but still loud, is there any thing I can do to make it go away? Is there something causing this, car runs fine overall.

Some part of the air circuit (smog pump or plumbing) is probably letting air get into the exhaust while the gasses are still hot enough to ignite. Or you have an exhaust leak. You might be able to tune for that "just right" popping sound by varying the restriction to the piping, if that's what's doing it.

Nothing wrong with a little popping and of course it will be louder now with straight pipes. Like big dave says and me too i really like it when i hear it on mine, but its a low burble mean sound. If you have major backfiring then there is too much unburnt fuel there.

Popping as described is probably a symptom of a rich condition on coast down. Try this: full throttle in second gear all the way to redline, then coast down to about 3000 rpm, throttle closed. Give your throttle a real quick little pop with your foot.

BANG! That's when you'll see three-foot flames!

If you lean your car out it won't do it as much, but you'll probably loose power and might even get into knock.

N!
