Alternate 02 Sensor for the 928?
I know about the alternate Anchor motor mounts...but what about an alternate O2 sensor? These are supposed to be changed out every 60k miles or so. The 968 owners use the Ford Temp sensor (or something like that) Bosch part number 13913. Universal type 3-wire $34.99 on sale at Advance Auto Parts. (or several other alternates that are much cheaper than the original Porsche and apparently work just as well). I don't mind splicing wires. Has anyone used an alternate sensor for the 928? Is the 928 a 3 wire unit?

Yes, no, yes, & yes.
Any 3-wire sensor will do: Bosch ones are generally available on ebay for attractive $, although in a recent thread, 928 Int'l had some at good pricing. The 'no' is in reference to sensor life - they may last far,far longer than 60K. There is a test method in a link I posted some time back ( to Gretch IIRC).
Bosch code black for signal, 2x white for the heater: AC Delco use a black/purple/orange ... still works, but the signal wire must be determined.

I have used a sensor for a Ford (V6 Escort) and it works fine. I had to splice the sensor into the plug from the old sensor. It seems to work fine although I do have a long warm up period and when I first start the car up the idle will vary a little for the first 30 seconds or so. But that may be the way its supposed to work. I'm not really sure. What I can say is that my MPG seems to have increased since changing it.

Garth S, I tried the test with a MAP gas torch, and it was inconclusive....my amp meter may not have been sensitive enough......I really should get a better one.

Gretch - I agree that the blue flame test is tricky: actually, the part that counts is not the generation of voltage as much as the up-down response time of output as the sensor tip is whipped in/out of the flame when up to temp.

does the 88 928 S4 euro take two O2 sensors? I found a link describing the one in the exhaust, is there supposed to be another one?
Sorry for the dumb question, I thought there was only one.
