Default Hello All, Old sharkster back in the Waters

Hello all, My Name is Leonard, I have been on This sight and 928S4ever and all of the others since they were new.
I previously owned a 1987 928S4 Black on Black 5spd.
About 8 years ago or a little less I sold the car.

I have missed the car terribly since then, every time I would see any 928 I would just want to kick myself for what I had done. My wife and then, 5 year old daughter had grown to love the car as much as I did.

My wife and daughter would give me a hassle every time they saw a 928 or anything that looked like a 928.
I knew that I would eventually own another one, preferably a GT or a GTS.

So last weekend I decided to look at a few cars to go with the other Pcars that I had experienced in my life.
A 1987 5spd with a reported 47K miles caught my eye on craigslist, Very clean, looked like it was new from the pics and well taken care of. It wasn't a GT or GTS, but it was one of the most beautiful blues that I had ever seen. (Dark Blue) with tan interior and black dash and door tops.

I am in St. Louis, and the car is in Ripion(sp?) near Modesto Ca. 2000miles. Icalled the guy and we discussed the car and arrived at a decent price for what was described, I knew that others must have seen the car so I knew that I wasn't the only one that would speak on it.
But I made my offer, with inspection provisions of course, the owner and I came to a price conclusion. The other guys must have been hot on the other end, hot as in really wanting the car as well.

I was moving methodically before my purchase, so In fairness to the owner, I say that he had to have a deposit, one that I was more than willing to do, just after getting some assurances, well my slowness caused me that vehicle, I don't blame the owner because he had other buyers willing to send the $$$$'s instantly, I had to have paperwork and something a lil more concrete.

So someone, maybe someone on here has a very nice 928, and I don't blame them for the aggressiveness nor the owner. I hope it is nice as it sounds.

All hope was not lost, I knew where 3 more 928s were, guess what? they were all gone, You all are too quick on the draw. So now I am really depressed and I start to look at 930s (Keep it in the Family) So I am heading to a local dealer and a guy I was just jawing with says he remembered seeing a 91 with 5spd, "it was red" he said.
"red on tan".

He told me where it was and I said I saw that car it's an Auto. He told me he was pretty sure it was a "stick". I said oh well I have to go buy there anyway , I will check it out... Well low and behold. It is a 91 Red 5 spd with 75.5K Black and tan interior, One owner with all of the records. A few small issues, the fuel smell that reminded me so much of my last car, I will have to find that fix again, I remember it was some filter or a t- adapter that was prone to crack or cause this raw fuel smell.

I digress, well anyway I try not to look too excited and ask them for the keys to the car, after walking around by myself, making sure they saw me looking at what small things I could pick apart and act as I was overly concerned.
After finding that the battery was dead and the fact that we were indoors, "I couldn't start the car anyway" one salesman to the other, I just asked the guy to get the keys anyway so I can check every thing out on the inside.

Well I find that all keys are there, except the valet, all records are there, all the books, but the battery is dead and I can't make sure all of the lights and switches are working correctly, not to mention driving the car or even hearing it run. There were no leaks, no repaints other than the front bumper cap, they didn't match it totally, another fix. After getting and act of congress they got a battery charger and decided to charge the battery (If they could only find it) That is why it was dead, they had no clue of were it was, any way they fire it up and I am just thrown down memeory lane. I just love the sound coming out of the dual exhaust tips. A lil noise up front, reminded me of how things sounded when I needed a water pump. Oh well I will get that check out tomorrow.

They wanted another act of congress to make sure that I ws really going to buy the car, asking for a non refundable deposit, I am like that is not legal unless I agree to it, and I am not agreeing to non-refundable in any sense, so I get to take the car out, I want to see if it shifts correctly, I want to see if I could hear anything non-ordinarily heard, make sure the power steering was fine, the torque tube, you guys know what I am looking for, problem is, I hit the gas pedal and my mind immediately said sold.

After driving the heck out of the car, I drove right to the bank and grabbed the cashiers check and went back to get the car. They tried to add about $300 to the total, which of course I said "fogetaboutit". No one thought I was going to buy the car so they were not taking me serious, even the salesman was talking to his girlfriend about missing their arranaged movie time. I took in all in stride because I had found a car that I could work with, to get it to the level I wanted.

I love the car. I may have gotten a good deal, I may have gotten taken, but I now have some my favorite Pcars of all time. And my very favorite car that I can afford.

Well how does the commercial go?
"I am too excited to sleep"
I am so glad to be back.
Len

Here is the details.

Wonder were most of my loyalty lies? As far as cars are concerned. look beyond the typing.:

Thanks for sharing my Homecoming.
By the way Like other newbees, I will most likely ask a lot of questions before using the search.

Michael thanks again, I see the ridiculous asking price, No wonder the dealers still had the car.
Trust me I paid nowhere near his asking price.

I will see if I can get this edited, because I had just registered it. I thought you were refering to my new registry.
Thanks again for posting the pics.

Is this a SUPER RARE 91 S4 5-speed? WOW!

Oh, and here's what you want to look at for the gas fumes. Passenger front wheel well behind the liner.

Did I miss it somewhere in the text? Is it a 5 speed or an auto?

In any event, congrats and welcome back.
