Default Fitting 16x9" CS Wheels at all 4 Corners

I cannot seem to find any of the elusive 16x8" CS wheels for the front of my beloved shark. Is there any problem with using 16x9" wheels up there? I would mount my rears, but they have VERY large rubber on them right now.

I'm planning to use 245/45 16 Tires. I know, you can put them on 7" wheels, but it is not optimal.

I was looking at Toyo for tires...any help here?

The bible about wheels and tires is piblished on the Australian web site, worth reading
http://www.landsharkoz.com/tt/ttwheels.htm
it says Maximum sensible wheel width (with professional fitting and without flared guards) is 9½" front and 11" rear, but many will settle for less (e.g. 9" front and 10" rear).
I do not know if having 9 Front and 9 Rear will handle OK versus 8 front and 9 rear or 9 front and 10 rear. I guess you have to try i. At the front, having the correct offset seems to be the most critical point.

Thanks for the link Marton. From what I read, it's a combination of offset and wheel mass that is the end-all combination. Since I am sticking with factory approved offsets and wheel types, I should be alright.

I should probably break down and get 17" wheels, but I really like the look (and the weight) of the CS wheels. More than that, if I'm going to do it I want to do it right (ie. one piece forged aluminum Kinesis FM110s) and I cannot afford that right now.

He mentions all the tire types (or tyre tipes) I've been considering. I'm still not sold on one in particular, but I know I want the same size all around for the purpose of rotation.

I tried fitting the CS 9's on the front of my '88 S4 and they were too wide. With the car on the lift and the front suspension fully extended, the wheels looked like they would clear after I bolted them up. When I put the car on the ground and the weight of the car was on the suspension, I expected the camber to tuck the upper part of the tire under the fender lip, instead, the entire rim pushed outward. Maybe with stiff springs and high ride height it would work, but they looked to be about 1/2" too wide to work on my car for the ride height I like to run. (160mm with koni/eibachs)

I, inadvertantly, put my 9" CS wheels on the front and 8"'s on the rear (don't ask) and drove around for several days and did not notice. Not until I was admiring how wide the fronts were looking, did I realize my mistake. Worked on my '85 which rides pretty low with -1.25 camber setting.

Jay Kempf has 16x9 (89GT) rims with 245's on all four. Best set up on any 928 I've ever seen or driven.

Lies! All Lies!!!

Glad to hear the combo has worked out, it would be nice to run the same size wheel at each corner. My car didn't feel like cooperating apparently, it looked like the lip would have come squarely down on the tire. Perhaps my car had the special "aerodynamic front fender" option?.

It could be as simple as tire selection....you were running Kumho Victoracers right Adam?...maybe a tire with a different sidewall profile will curve in more than others.?....

Later,
Tom

BTW..Im runnng the CS wheels 8s and 9s..and my track set is 245 all the way round...no issues...

245/45's on 9" wide??? Yowza I couldn' even find that size tire!

The best sizes I had found for 9" wide on 16" rims was 245/50's which actually fit well up to 8.5" with an approx roll dia of 25.6" or a 255/50 which will fit a 9" nicely, but the rolling dia is aprox 26". No big deal to me. I was going to increase the width of my PD's and go to 9" so they can be rotated all around....would look way cooler too!

What 16 x 9 wheel is original to the 928? Where does one find a 245/45/16 tire? What are the specs?

D90 and CS rears are 16x9. According to 928 Specialists the CS rears are 60mm offset and the D90s are 52.3mm.

245/45-16s aren't the most common size, but they're not really hard to find. TireRack's search comes back with 16 results.

I think you nailed it Tom. I did fit them with the R-compound Kumho's, and I think you're right, for a 245/45 they were a lot fatter than the street version.

While washing my car, I noticed a substantial ammount of room under the front fender lip. I'm going to do soem measuring and see which way is the best to go as far as offsets/width.
