Default New to forum...not to the 928

Just thought I would chime in. I recently was turned onto your forum from a run in with another 928 enthusiast. I have had 7 928's since my firts back in 1990 which was a 1986 5sp. That was before the house, 3 kids, and minivans. I look back and boy I guess I didn't know how lucky I was driving a shark at 24 years old when all my buddies were driving Camaros and Mustangs (not that there is anything wrong with that) I just can't believe I swung a 928 when my car payment and insurance was the majority of my check !!! Anyway since then I have had a few later models and a few early models. I try to do most everything myself and have had alot of lessons learned through trial and error with 928's. As much as I swear them up and down when wrenching on them, I can't seem to get over the passion for these cars. Currently I am working on an 82 which I recently purchased on impulse when I had seen it sitting in the owners front yard while passing by. I have been reading some of the posts and you guys are killing me....I thought I was bad with these cars...man, I wish my wife knew I wasn't the only 928 obsessed fanatic around. I always just referred to my manuals and thought I was basically alone in my obsession. Now that I know there are more 928ers out there, I look forward to sharing info. and finding good tips and advise on this forum. Oh, my avatar is a 1990 that I flew down to Miami and drove back to Boston sight unseen. It was a few years back in the middle of January. Pic was taken in South Carolina as I was passing the border (South of the Border). Since then the car has been sold.

It's amazing that you got along all by your lonesome. I would have been pretty lost without the advice I've gotten on this list. Great timesaver and headache reducer. Plus, the people. I've met many Rennlisters and hope to meet many more. I've had a number of hobbies, but this one has been all around the most enjoyable primarily because there is something about the people who appreciate the 928 (like you obviously do) that makes them down to earth but adventurous and remarkably unpretentious when you consider the common perception of Porsche owners.

Welcome aboard. With all those 928s you must have lot to contribute.

I don't know what it is about this obsession with the 928. I've owned a few cars and never agonized over any of them like this one. Like a woman. Can't live with 'em, yada yada yada. The headaches are many as well as the $$'s, but when it's running like a top, the positive outweighs any negative by far. The porsche that is...
What is the condition of the '82?

Welcome and good luck!

Welcome! You'll find that Rennlist is priceless. I don't know how I would make it without it. I have the manuals, but there's nothing like getting BTDT and WYAIT from other members. I've almost become addicted to the list as I have my 928.

I think that if my girlfriend new EXACTLY how much I have spent on my shark, she would probably flip out and crouch down in a corner rocking back and forth.

Only problem with "sharkoholics anonymous" is we don't "cure" each other.

If anything, we make each other even more infected than before.

Oh well.

I think the official term is "enablers".

Been driving my new to me 85 928S every chance I can and I am loving it! What a fun car. Makes me smile just thinking about it - can't believe I finally bought one. Can't believe I waited this long to buy one.

Makes me smile even wider when I drive it.

Thanks for the welcome wagon. I feel like I just moved to a new neighborhood !!!! I have had hobbies come and go but I seem to always have a 928 in the garage. I "jones out" a little....OK ALOT, when I don't have a 928 to screw around with. To answer a previous question, the 82 I have now I would say is a 8/10. It is from the original owner, 127K, no sunroof, new paint/ dark brown(original color, although the PO added metallic)..looks nice. New catback exhaust, new rotors/pads, TB at 100K and everything works as well as the aftermarket remote control CD unit!!! I just finished painting the calipers, replacing CV boots, mini shocks, rear shocks, new fuel filter, interior reconditioning, and misc. hoses and lines. Basically just going thru it and sprucing it up. It really doesn't need much. He gave me an extra Jetronic unit, airflow sensor, two new racing seats , never installed, and all the original books and records. All this for $2300. I was trying to hold back my excitement when handing him the cash !!! I just ordered a pan gasket from RealGaskets after reading a thread on this forum and will be attacking that as soon as it arrives. I'm interested in seeing the quality....I'm sick of the flimsy OEM gaskets !!! I'll update you all on how it goes.

The purchase price is just the down payment, maintenance is the mortgage!
