Default Stock piston/pin weight vs. Ross

Courtesy of Motorsport (Utah), the latest in the rear turbo motor build up.

It's amazing how heavy the stock wrist pins are compared to these aftermarket Ross's.
Here's a side by side comparison:

Stock pin weight:

Ross pin weight:

So the good news is saving just shy of 50 grams pure pin .

The not so good news is gaining half of it back through heavier piston weight.

(Note S4 stock weight upper left)

The good news is, that these Ross's are pretty stout, and the extra weight is worth the extra strength for the boosted application of this motor. Solid!

I found that there were two different pin thickness used on the 928 motor. 85/86 having a thicker wall pin than the S4 pin.

Cool pictures! That's a great comparison of the stock piston weights.

The pins are not Ti, although that would be nice. The pistons are going into a Nikasil block, but my stroker is still alusil. If my Mahle's aren't in by the time this motor is done, I'll ship the block out to be nikasiled and go with domestics.
