There was a service that would do this, I used it all the time last year. But Craigslist found out about it and forced the guy to shut down his site. I found it thru Google....do a search, maybe someone else has stepped up and is "sticking to the man".

Okay, I think we're ready on this project. To all who have volunteered the best way to get me the information is going to be to fill out a registration form and email pictures.

When sending pictures please do so immediately after you send the registration form in order to keep things together and easier to keep track of on my end. Also, please keep the photos as large as possible (the website you pull them from has probably already shrunk them). Additionally, please copy ALL the pertinent text from your source. I do not want the terms of sale verbiage or the ads from any site you might get them from.

Remember too, the FULL VIN is required.

Here is the list of volunteers I have so far. If anyone wants off the list please let me know. Also, someone sent me an email volunteering to do the 83 models. I'm sorry but I have not been able to find that communication please send me another note.

Model - Volunteer:
1993-95 928 GTS - Chuck Z
1991 928 GT/S4 - Andrew Olson
1990 928 GT/S4 - Andrew Olson?
1989 928 S4 - Bill Ball
1989 928 GT - Chuck Z
1988 928 S4 - Michael
1987 928 S4 - Rich Herrera
1986 928 S - Shane Elliott
1985 928 S - Norm Bednar
1984 928 S - macreel
1983 928 S -
1982 928 - Roger Tyson
1981 928 - David
1980 928 - David
1979 928 - Anthony Tate
1978 928 - Rixter
1977 928 - Rixter
928 Euros in the US - Borys K
928 Euros in Canada - Malcolm

Thanks again guys and let the fun begin.....

Small question I've been wondering. What's idea behind 1977 and 1978 split? Both pages contain 1978 model year cars.

Some of the very early cars were built and sold in the US during 1977. Per 928 Specialists website:
production info

I guess technically they are all 78's based on the VIN....

Thought that would be it. Registration date can be just about anything and only solid info is model year in VIN. As good as 928GT site is that production info list does not make sense. I bet there were many more cars done before December 31st 1977 than 175, or only 13 for US.

theoretically there are no 77 MY cars, earliest vin is 9288xxxxxx which is a 78
I'll be discussing this with Chuck, it's my understanding that there were (per 928SP site) 175 Euro and 13 US cars built AND sold in 77... does this include the prototypes?
ie.. 9288100001-9288100175 are 77 OR 9288100051-9288100225?
dilemmas dilemmas...
AND, I notice there are only like 3 78 euros n the Euros in NA section when I know DAMN right well there are MANY more than that
hmmmmm.. guess we need to talk Chuck

Chuck-
I'm in for the '90 S4/GT, so no "?" needed. I found one today, that I think needs listing. I'll send it over later this afternoon.

Chuck-
Question - Went to fill out the Registration Form, but it asks for Owner Name and email. Since we are registering other people's cars, how do you want us to handel this? Don't want to mess you up, so I'm asking BEFORE I submit.

Hi Andrew,

Please put your name in that section. I'll put NA when I list the car on the site and it will also help me with whom to give credit for the work. Thanks.

So, any general instruction on how this works? Is it easy to determine if a car has been registered (ie., can I get a list of VINs already on the list for 89 S4s?). It appears from the website I need to save the current listings, import into a spreadsheet and sort by serial.

Figured you'd probably do it the same way I do. When I add a car from say eBay, first thing I do is go the website and check to see if I already have the car. What I might suggest is that each person keep track of the VINs they submit to prevent doubling up on submissions.

In my opinion only usable info is model year number/letter in VIN. If you want to list cars based on when they were first sold you need to expand upper end to at least year '96 also. Besided, sale date is virtually impossible to know on most cases.

If 928GT and other published statistics like Jörg Austen's book were both correct it would mean Porsche should still have 4000 unsold 928's stashed away somewhere. Also they would probably have been bankrupted back in 1978 as they had made well over 5000 928's by the end of that year and only managed to sell 1/5 of them according to 928GT list.
