With the LSD the tire burnout will be very short. If it was a 5-speed it would be a little easier to do a good one. Its the price you have to pay if you want limited slip, but the extra traction is well worth it.

Would most agree that Redline 75/90 NS for about 80% of the fluid mixed with regular Redline 75/90?

I feel like my projects are a couple years behind yours. Let's see my LSD just came in last week. Not sure if I can I can wait till 2017.

Did you do it yourself or leave it to a pro? How about a few pictures and/or words of advice. Any WYAIT items?

I recently acquired a '89 5spd with LSD & I was getting a lot of chatter, particularly when making a turn from a stop. I searched the gear oil discussions and found a lot of confusing/contradictory information. So, I emailed Redline to see what they recommended.

The Redline tech recommended straight 75W90NS. He said that they used to recommend a mixture, but that the current 75W90NS contains a slight amount of friction modifier, so the basis for using a mixture isn't there anymore.

I drained my diff and added 5 quarts of Redline 75W90NS. Chatter is gone & it seems to be working just fine.

edit. I just found the reply email:

"Thank you for contacting Red Line Oil, some time ago we used a fluid blend in the Porsche transaxles to closely match the original. The 75W90NS now contains a slight amount of friction modifier, for improved shiftability not for chatter control.
In your 928 transaxle the 75W90NS is recommended, if chatter is present from the clutch type limited slip when making a slow/tight turn a slight amount of Friction Modifier can be added, being aware that excess will adversely affect shiftability. Typically Porsche limited slip differentials don’t chatter, if chatter occurs 1 to 1½ % would be a good starting point. The 75W90 contains 5% friction modifier too slippery for the synchros so not recommended for use in a manual transmission/transaxle."

Straight 75W90NS worked for me - didn't have to add any friction modifier. By the way, 1 to 1½% would be about an ounce.

So, I could start with straight 75/90NS and if it doesn't chatter, that's it. If it chatters, suck some out and add some 75/90.

I ended up having a pro install it. I could have done it but since I decided to have a pro fix my tranny leak (and give the internals a once over) after I botched it, I just brought the diff to him to do as well. There are some threads on LSD swaps.

Thanks Bill, I will most likely do the same. That is have a pro do it and fix/replace seals and mounts. What internals did they 'once over'?

I still haven't got around to getting my SC setup dialed in yet so who knows, it might be six years;o
