Default Someone Build a Camera Bar - PLease

I NEED a camera bar and WANT a camera bar, I hate the thought of adding a roll cage just to mount a camera.

Is there a creative inventor out there who can build one for the 928 community?

If so count me IN !

where do you want your camera? bumper or inside, the conventional way? some have mounted cameras on the visor, others on the bumper

I'm working on one that uses the rear visor mounting points, but it's not a high priority on my list of projects...it will have to wait till at least end of Spring

www.helmetcamera.com

mount it with adhesive velcro, and you can pretty much mount it where ever you want.

There is a white Euro 928 up here (owner just sold a GT to Garrity's shop, I think) that uses a cool setup that claps around the headrest of the seat to hold a camcorder.

Anyone see this besides me? I did not take a picture of it.

Indeed! They don't say how they connect, via an RCA video jack or better yet S-Video? I wonder how the camera gets power?

I use a Sony PC9 mounted on my skydiving helmet but that's still more weight on my neck than I would like. I have a roll bar mount for the car, but with the roll bar mating with the rear shock towers vibration still gets transfered and does on occasion overwhelm the camera's "Steady Shot".

Here's the Samsung option which uses Mpeg4:

I have one of these. Bought it 4 or 5 years ago from the same people. Mine has an RCA output, but that was then. Things may have changed by now

This is something I've wanted to do for a long time, and have thought about a couple of different versions that might be nice options.

1. Make a mount that connect up under the sunroof motor cover.
2. Use a really good windshield mount (like what the newer G-Tech Pro RR's use) and fab a mount from that (would only be used with ultra light digital cameras like teh Cannon SD300).

Maybe we can get PorKen to fab one up.

I doubt that the suction cup style would pass tech at the DE events, they want to see a rigid mount in case something bad happens. Otherwise that is a pretty good looking mount.

I have a home made mount that uses the 4 mounting points from the rear glove box....I removed the box and used some 1/8 inch steel to make 4 legs that go to a flat plate and then used an old tripod head on top. I put 4 large rubber "corks" under the feet where it bolts to the glove box. It works OK but I'd rather have an actual bar.

The mini camera looks like the best solution so far...

Thanks for all of the input.

I wonder about a bar that attaches to the seatbelt harness pivot and then runs back to the rear glovebox and picks up additional support from an angled leg there?

Default Home Depot to the rescue

Camera mount for under $10. with a flexible aluminum bar with pre-punched holes @ Home Depot. Use longer screws into the center mounts of the rear visors. Bend the bar, and center the camera, it gives you a picture out the windshield and the dash.

Cool. Is this strong enough not to sway/vibrate around?

Don't forget you can use the tie down points in the rear cargo area.
I used a 1inch square steel tubing, then welded an adjustable camera pad almost in the center. So storage would be easier I made it so that another bar could slid into the middle of the cross bar. To make the bottom look like a T. Near both ends of the cross bar, I cut out a 1 inch square on the bottom then a 7/16 ish hole on top. Purchased J bolts plus wing nuts.

Currently I use a nylon tie down strap from part of the camera pod connected to the rear tie downs to keep that part tight. That also keeps the safety guys happy seeing it strapped down or safety strapped with a redundant mounting method.

Larry:

Can you post a pic of your setup?

Regards,

Ken
