928 with supercharger?????????
What years are the best for this upgrade? Also, what type of power and #'s are you putting out. I had an 87' S4 5 speed with exhaust and chips and always loved that car, I regretted selling it.
I am a Porsche fanatic and have owned 6 of them so far, I currently have a 965 Turbo so I like torque and speed, what do you guys/gals have and recommend?

Any 928 is perfect for boost, it just depends on what power levels you want. Maybe watch for GTS and Euro 83-85, since they seem to have hugher compression (i'm not sure if its been proved how much of the 10.4:1 they get though)

Apparently the 87 which you had is a good choice because the pistons have oil squirters for extra cooling (less chance of detonation), sadly the heads are prone to cracking, so perhaps not ideal after all.

It appears the 85-86 has thicker cylinders on their blocks, decent heads with a nice cam duration and favorable compression ratio. Those are good for the 32 valvers in those years. The other people who posted have alot of good points too.

For a 16V, I'd go with a US 1983-84 L-jet 4.7L. Earlier US cars have less displacement and I'm not sure how well you can tune an 80-83 K-jet Euro on boost. 78-79 cars would be fun because they weigh less and have lower stock compression.
For a 32V, any of them have their good and bad points, but I don't think any is much better than others. 89+ has thicker heads. 87+ have bigger valves. 85-86 have thicker walls on average. Some early 87s have piston squirters. 85-86 S3 and 89-91 GT have better cams. I don't think you could go wrong with any of them.

Christian,
I have an '89 5sp with the autorotor twin-screwed SC and intercooler. With 7.5 psi boost I am making 460rwhp and consistantly in the low 12's at the drag strip. Hope this helps. Woody

Any 32V 928 is the best candidate. As Brendan says, GTS have not been known to be shall we say explosion-proof, but that may be due to human favtors.

93 GTS auto, Vortech T-Trim at 5.5 psi, intercooled, massive head work, DEVEK level 2 headers, single Borla exhaust. 410 rwhp... could get another 30hp if we lean it out, but why risk it.

The '85-'86 32V engines have smaller valves that the S4s, but the more agressive cams make up for some of the difference. Mine is an '85 32V 5-speed with a non-intercooled Paxton Novi SSG supercharger @ ~5.5-6psi. Yet to dyno the car, but last September I got consitent high 12s all day/night long with a best of 12.8sec. My guesstimation is around 380-400rwhp for my setup.

90 GT, stock motor, 2 1/2" exhaust, no cats w/ mx422 twin screw dynoed at 464 rwhp @ just under 7lbs. Shark ran great and never got hot. Unfortunately there was a nut behind the wheel. See my sig...

I have a '91 GT with the Eaton blower running 6.7 psi. I haven't had it on a dyno since I solved the belt slip issue.
My .02 is that with the gobs of power that the blown sharks have, you are better served with something other than the 2.73 final drive ratio in the GT. Also, you don't need the GT or GTS higher compression if you are force feeding it. Save the upfront extra cost of a GT or GTS and invest in an '85-'86 S3 or if you like the later cars, an early S4. Now, if you want the refinement of the later cars that is another story. Hell, if you want it all, it is gonna cost ya!
