Correct replacement torque tube bearings?
I have been searching the forums and this is still not clear to me.
On my -90GT is the correct size 6006 or 6007?
Have found shielded bearings with high temp grease specified to 302F or 150 deg C.
They are not metal shielded though like the 6006 2Z version.
Also wondering about the C spec and what to use?
C3-C5 seems valid but which is better for a TT and what was used originally?

C3 appears to be a popular choice: There is a abundance of excellent data and useful links in Erkkas post on TT Rebuild . Good reading!

Thanks Garth,
yes this is a good write up with lots of pictures on the TT rebuild.
But it doesn't give much details on the bearings if I remember right?
Was there different size bearings used in a 928 TT?

Just look for the hyperlinks in the various posts. Here is one from post#6 , where Dave specifies 6006 2Z C3 HT51 bearings. In a later # post, Thom later issued a good link to my query on 'C' ratings, etc.
Was there a change in bearing sizes? - I didn't think so, but Erkka would know: he was doing a parallel rebuild of a '78 and '92 TT . The only difference noted was a vibration damper on the shaft.

Ok,
one post found when searching mentioned that there was a difference.
6006 and 6007 could be used depending on Year, but it was only one post.
Could not find any other hints in this direction though.

AFAIK at least all manual TT's use 6006. It might be possible that '89+ automatic shaft which has few mm thicker center shaft (and might have different style bearing carriers) could also use different size bearing. Have heard one case where this later style automatic tube bearings were changed and 6006 were used in it so 6007 info is probably wrong. Haven't verified this to be the case though. 6006 and 6007 are different size, 30x55x13 vs. 35x62x14. If 6006 fit 6007 will not.
Our TT rebuild is still ongoing. We do have bearings for them already. Could not find C5's from anywhere so ended up with 6006.C4.TP.L225 which is meant for high temperature electric motors mainly used in fans. Grease should withstand temps up to 180 C and both sides are shielded.

Thanks for chiming in Erkka,
I have ordered a 6006 FT150 bearing with 150 deg C grease.
Hope it will be enough to last för a couple of Years.

Boy thats a good question. I have only rebuilt 87+ TTs. They are all 6006 bearings. I use sealed bearings, as the speed (6500rpm) is not an issue, but heat that lets the grease fall out IS, so the rubber seal should keep that in. They are non-contact seals, to not hurt efficiency.
