Performance/Economy: Megasquirt, Cryogenics, Water Injection, lean burn O2,Firestorm?
Hi Folks,
Wondering if anyone has applied any of these new 'cutting edge' technologies to their Porsche 928?
* Megasquirt: internet-developed full customisable ECU to control ignition, fuel, MAP/MAF sensors as well as wideband O2 sensor. I'm contemplating doing this to allow maximal tuning capability based on other changes I wish to make. Pretty affordable too. Just wondering if anyone has got base maps of ignition/fuel to start of from so the car still kinda works when this is in place.
* Cryogenics: immersion of metals in liquid nitrogen to improve tolerance to heat. Eg: brake rotors, interal combustion materials. Wondering of this would be suitable to an alloy engine?
* Water injection: prevents detonation, cooler running engine, allows for increased timing with leaner fueling Supposedly like 120 ron octane fuel if used correctly. Requires lean out of existing fuelling via correction to O2 sensor signal and MAF/MAP sensor signal.
* Firestorm sparkpugs: is this for real? Designer says can run 40:1 air fuel ratio is possible using a 'plasma injecting' spark plug. Complete fuel combustion AND no emissions. If real changes this technology the moves the combustion engine into the 21st century (****, it hasn't really changed that much in the last 100 years in it's base operations anyway). Google search for more info.
Thoughts/ideas/experiences most welcome.

Let me guess. You're a firestorm representative?
There is a guy here using water+ injecttion. He's in Nevada and runs boost. Maybe he can elaborate.

That firestorm plug story is an interesting read and would be great if true, BUT if it were true someone would be making them now. If he could prove what he is claiming, then some venture capitalists would have backed him by now and they would be in every auto parts store.

This explains the sparkplug...Krupa knows spark plugs and has worked very hard to bring improved designs to the automotive market. Although it was not his design, he is solely responsible for bringing the "SplitFire" spark plug to the market over a decade ago. It was a simple variation on standard plugs which featured a split electrode, designed like a snake's tongue, that increased the sparking area of the plug somewhat. It cost more than an average spark plug and generated annual sales of US$60 million in 1993." It is all about the MONEY.........if even 1/2 of the claimed benefits existed Toyota would probably pay him a BILLION dollars for his design.

Heard somewhere that any tech that improves fuel efficiency is purchased by the big companies, then shelved indefinitely to support the purchase of fuel. So naughty of them
Eg: water injection has been around since WWII. It's effects can be felt when driving your car in a cold foggy night - the engine DEFINITELY runs smoother, cooler with better performance. Water is cheap and effective and the concept improves performance and improves economy. So why is there no water injector in your intake to simulate foggy air, a water pump and a water reservoir approx 10% of your fuel tank? A good forum to investigate and discuss WI is http://www.waterinjection.info/phpBB2/ . The gains are definitely there to be had, especially from a 4.7, 5.0 or 5.4lr V8 Porsche all alloy engine!!
These guys have had good resullts with cryogenically treating brake rotors, though spark plugs in their own words have showed poor results.

Enjoy!

(The FireStorm being fired next to a standard plug during a working test.) The plasma is a shot of light into the combustion chamber. IMO looks vastly superior to a spark plug. I'm wondering just how much resistence the plug has point to point?!

I've been trying to get you bozos to use my patent pending TURBULATOR for years and no one will listen. EACH TURBULATOR will add 10 TEN 10 HP!!! You can get about 30 in the exaust and ten in each intake for a 500HP INCREASE!!!
Dyno proof coming just as soon as hell thaws out.
