Default Mark Anderson & 928 Intl Much more than dismantlers and Parts people!

They are enthusiasts to the core!!

Here is the story.

Last May/June while on my first vacation I had a bad (very bad) thing happen to one of my cars. It caught on fire!! Yep!

And you can read about it HERE!

Anyway, that day after I had settled down and had many beers, I called Jim at 928 Intl, I told him what had happened to Heidi and that I wanted a full set of brand spanking new fuel lines to put on Helmut to prevent such a disaster from happening again. A couple days later I get a phone call from Jim, and he says that due to my unfortunate situation he would like to offer me a new car to either restore and drive or to use as a parts car to get Heidi back on the road. Of course at the time I was pretty much broke, being at the end of my vacation, so I passed on the car.
Jim was not to be detered! He again offered it to me later when I had returned to Alaska, but again I declined because of cash flow problems, that and I had even entertained quitting the 928 altogether.
Like I said, Jim was not to be detered! He again offered it to me through Rennlist PM, which I again tried to decline, but Jim is persistant! So I said I would accept the deal if Mark would let me send in payments with the balance due at Sharktoberfest when I came down to pick it up. Mark accepted this deal and I started sending the payments.
The day I flew south from here I sent him the last payment. Finally after what seemed like forever I got to see the car in person the morning of 21st of Oct. Heinrich, who was nice enough to drive down with me in Helmut so I could drive my new one home, helped me evaluate it that morning. We inspected the car thoroughly, and found many issues that would need to be solved before it was road worthy for the trip back to Washington.
Of course with each new thing we found I kept seeing $$$ signs flash before my eyes and getting all the more worried. We showed Mark the list of items it would need, and I explained my situation. Pretty much broke again with just enough funding to buy fuel for the trip back, but not enough to buy the parts the car would need to get me there.
Here is where Mark truly shines! He handed me the parts and told me not to worry about it. Wow! Umm I was speachless, still am. Not only that but he let Heinrich and I use his tools and lift to install it all. He even did some of the work himself:

After some work which kept us hidden from most everyone at Sharktoberfest we got her done. Even with 226,553 miles on a ticker that quit ticking a long time ago, she still pulls hard. Mark checked back in with me several times Saturday evening and Sunday through the fun drive to make sure the car was ok, and to check to see that I was happy with the deal!! He has done very right by me and I am committed to 928 International. When I order parts that will be the number I dial.
And I will have to, as just three miles from my house in Washington the timing belt light came on!!

Anyway here is the car:

And the specs for it:

Options:

Y5Y5 - Meteor Grey Metallic
YZ - Leather Seats-Burgundy
P36 - Electric Sliding Sunroof
018 - Steering Wheel With Raised Hub
220 - Limited Slip Differential (!!)
383 - Sport Seat, Left (!!)
387 - Sport Seat, Right (!!)
418 - Protective Side Moldings
481 - 5-Speed Manual Transmission

Shocks (Koni PN 8240-1085 / 8240-1086)

And 3.09 gear ratio!

Thank You Mark Anderson, Jim Bailey, and 928 International!!!!!!!

Talking

I owned my first Porsche in 1973. Since that time, I've found the Porsche enthusiasts to be friendly and helpful. Now, being a part of the 928 community, this group goes beyond just friendly and helpful, many of our brothers go out of their way to help and encourage our enthusiasm. It is truely a family affair

Thanks!

The steering wheel that is mounted is the 930 sport wheel I stole from Heidi, since she is a bit crispy and not going anywhere for a while, I didn't think she would mind.

Not only that...Shane and H were convoying back to Washington with Chris F (mr torque tube :-) ) and myself following Sharktoberfest. My alternator gave up the ghost just south of Portland. After a quick diagnosis, I hopped in the car and drove as far as I could on the exising battery (1 hour) before it konked out. Called Shane who had turned around with H to assist me back in Portland, and he met me in Longview..drove me around to a parts store where I picked up another battery to get me home. He also followed home to ensure I got there (about 1 hour out of his way)...so Shane..this BUD's for you...or whatever choice you want next time we hook up..
Thanks.

What a great community of 928 owners we have here....

Later,
Tom

Great Stuff Shane. Thats a great car, and that 3.09 is a FIND man. Aren't 928s great when in one piece? I forgot how great it was to tinker on a complete car.

What a great story. I'm glad I was there to see snippets of it here and there too... I'm glad to have met you Shane, you're one helluva nice guy.

Mark, you're a class act all the way.

There is just nothing like the 928 community.... amazing.

I'll admit that though I'm new to the 928 I have always felt that fellow owners have been there to either offer advice, or support. Especially at times when I was fed up and ready to quit it all together. We do have a great community and I look forward to meeting some more of you in person someday when project "faded red spot" is complete
