Default Opinions needed: int. color change

I plan to work on my interior this winter, so I need some opinions on color.

My car ('85 5-speed) is gold and the interior is currently dark brown, and while I like the gold exterior, I'm not too crazy about the brown. I feel as if I'm driving around inside a Hershey's Almond Kiss!

I'll be replacing one worn section on the driver's seat before I attempt a re-dye. I'll also be capping the dash & replacing the carpet, steering wheel, & shift boot. My first thought was light tan for the entire interior except for a black dash & door arm rests. I also thought a total black interior would look good.

What interior color combos have you seen that really looked good? Considering my gold exterior, which one would look best?

Black is nice but it gets hot really quickly in the sun. It also only looks good if you constantly keep it clean.

I have seen a black dash with black seats and a tan carpet/rest of interior. I thought it was great.
Think about how difficult light seats are to keep nice.

Not to sound too ignorant, but I am in this regard. Anybody who has redone their interior, what exactly does that comprise of? I guess I am wondering if you were stuck finding old interiors from donor Sharks, or if you were able to create your own custom interior. My dash is all dried up, the headliner has shrunk, pod is cracked, seats are a 4.6/10. Looking to possibly redo my interior as well, and wondered what the most cost-efficient method is. Perhaps I shouldn't post that question in this thread, but it got me thinking.

this depends on many factors:
how many parts of your interior need to be fixed/replaced
what look are you going for? standard or custom
total color change or little to none?
how much money/time/energy are you willing to put in

a "spruce up" can take a few weekends and a couple hundred or so
a "complete" restoration/remake can run THOUSANDS

remember, just because you buy a black part to go in your current interior DOESN't mean it will actually match, so be prepared to dye it all if you get parts from different cars

You can easily spend a lot of money fixing the interior. Mine was shot so I bit the bullet and spent some money. I got 8 out of 10 quality used seats/dash/pod and had new carpeting installed. It's not perfect but it went from a 2 to an 8 so I'm happy with the result. I don't have "before" pictures but here's the "after". For a budget interior upgrade, I'd get a good used dash and pod, install new carpet and get a set of nice seat covers.

Joe, yours looks great!
I changed mine from all black, to black/linen. I started on it last year and only like a few things to having it completely done. The pics are old, I've got a new center console with everything that goes in it, new rear console covered in the same linen leather as the seats. Also got the side piece you see missing next to the center console. And a couple other little things. My interior was completely black, but it was mildewed and about a 1 out of 10. So, like Joe, I bit the bullet and I couldn't be happier. New carpet, recovered door panels, dash, seats, brand new cassette box. All of the leather is german and I bought an extra couple of hides to recover anything or if I decided to get something new. I should be picking up the shiftboot tomorrow, and I still need to purchase a shift ****. Also installed the zbox in the back. Here is a link to the original post

That's nice! My car originally had a full linen interior. Take good care of it.

Boy, for someone who has an all black interior, changing the carpet to tan is really striking! I like that a lot.

Have any of you guys had the interior completely re-dyed (color change)? I'm curious to how much this may cost. Assuming that I'll dissassemble the interior and deliver to the shop in pieces.

Chris, is there someway to get a mold made from your subwoofer enclosure? That would look great in the back of my car.

I'm kicking myself for not taking any before pictures now but at the time I got it, it looked so bad inside and out, I didn't know if I'd keep it or not. The next morning after I got it, it was towed to the shop and by the time it came back (running), they cleaned it up nicely. 8 years sitting in one place just isn't good for a car.
