I asked them about the use of 944 sleeves and this was their response:
Are you referring to the 3.0L 944 block? People may have used our dry sleeves that are used in the 944 blocks in the 928. We have a head here with the block so we make the sleeves they will be made accordingly. The 3.0L sleeves are $800.00 for the set and include the 4 sleeves, o-rings, lubricant and sealer. The 3.0L kits are custom made to order.
Attached is a block spec of what the block is bored out to in order to fit the sleeves in the block. The stock cylinder casting is completely removed and replaced with the wet sleeve. Due to the limitations of the 3.0L block the largest safe bore size the block will go is 106mm. I will also attach a picture of the sleeves we use. The sleeves is sealed off with 3 Buna 70 o-rings on the lower register of the sleeve.
I have the images they sent me but Im not sure how to insert them into this post.

So, assuming these guys come through with the sleeves and I don't think they wont. Where am I going to have to look to find "junk" blocks for these projects? (actually just junk bores, in an otherwise good block) Then to top it off, preferably 87 model blocks with the "squirters". I would prefer to find blocks that are considered junk because of bore damage to keep my initial costs down and because I don't want to "destroy" good blocks by cutting the bores out. Any suggestions?

The shortblock in my racecar right now is an '86, and it has a scratched cylinder. I will be pulling it out this winter, so it could be available for sale. I don't need it right now, of course that could change....

If it's just scratches, not cracks, it might be candidate for aluminium sleeve. Even cracked block can be fixed with those but in my opinion is only worth the effort if it's squirter or owner must have original block in the car.

Well, I have two ex-scratched blocks that have been bored, and one that was just lapped to match a set of 968 pistons I acquired. I also have a complete '86.5 motor waiting to donate it's block to replace the scratched block in the racecar right now. So, I don't need to fix this block for myself at this point. Of course with my recent history, I could need it sooner than I think....

Truthfully I am not sure if the squirter location will be affected by the sleeve install or not. They sent me specs for machining a 3.0 944 engine for wet sleeves but they don't know yet what the spec will be for the V8. It was the pdf file, so I couldn't post it.
