I have come to understand that the '87-onward 928 uesd a different OEM windshield, in that it specified an "inner shield" which was apparently a plastic layer on the inner surface of the glass. This leads me to believe that the pre'87 windshield(s), which are easier to find, will fit, and work fine, provided the "with-antenna" version is used.

Any comments, confirmations, contradictions?

Sekuriflex is one with that inner layer invented for those drivers who did not use seat belts. The bad thing is that it is the same P/N as one without the inner liner. Dealers have told me that US supply consists mostly of Sekuriflex's. Pilgington US has no idea if SIGLA is still being made. That is what I was told by them:
"An old LOF (Pilkington) 1996 edition of foreign car glass shows this same OE part number for a 928 2 D coupe, model years '85-86. It shows that the NAGS part number (the nomenclature used in the US) as an FA506, tinted. Unfortunately, I did a quick check of this part's inventory within Pilkington's US network of Service Centers. None have it in stock.

The reference to Sigla appears to be the Pilkington Germany manufacturing location when produced and many changes have likely taken place in the 20 years since OE production. Usually, the OE manufacturers are required to produce glass for the aftermarket for 10 to 15 years past the last production date. It's very likely this glass is no longer being produced and it would appear that Pilkington no longer makes the product or holds stock in the USA.

928 Specialists have $850 price on them - but the same applies - they do not know which shield will arrive: SIGLA or Sekuriflex?

So, I am giving up. I wanted to get new SIGLA (antenna and no visor) - and it seems to be immpossibe to find. I have a direct Pilginton source for clear SIGLA (which is German Pilkington's Subsidiary) with no antenna and with a visor banner - for $300. I did not pursue it further to verify, but if anyone wanted to try it, please contact me.

Tony,

Don't believe it until the glass is on your car. I ordered mobile service glass from all the major companies. Every time they scheduled the appointment and assured me the glass was in stock. I even asked to be connected to the local showroom on the last call I made (called into their national number). The local outfit assured me they had the glass there on site. Sure enough, on every occasion, I got a call the morning of the appointment from the local dispatcher. "Sorry Sir, this is a dealer only item. We'd be happy to install an OEM winshield at the price of $1195, pending availability of course.

Good luck bro', hope they get to you. In hopes that Safelite somehow recently got a massive shipment of replacement windshields, I just now made another appointment with them. Again they assured me the glass is in stock here in Puyallup. I'll know for sure come Monday, I've got a mobile install appointment from 8am - Noon. I'm not holding my breath.
