Half as effective? Where did you see that, Alan? The info that I found indicated it was an equivalent swap....

Dave,

Most Halotron 2.5lb extinguishers are rated 2:BC, Most Halon 1211 2.5lb extinguishers are rated 5:BC
- similar sized extinguishers.

It seems to be equivalent behaviourally but requires more volume of material for that equivalency - I assume that halotron is actually discharged at a faster rate than halon for an equivalent immediate impact based on some other discussions I have seen on effectiveness on fires. Then it comes down to how much time you can deploy for.

Did a quick Goggle search on the Halon model and look what popped up on the first link. Notice the car in the background. I take this a sign that one of these is needed for my car. Now can I only find it with a nice bracket and preferable not in red.

After I learned there was a recall for fires started by defective cat heat shields I installed this small extinguisher here by my footwell. It does in no way interfere with me while driving at all.
Based upon its rather small size, I presume it will come in mighty handy to extinguish my shoes, socks and pant legs.
